It’s a shame it took him so long to play under McKenna, feel like Luongo’s career could have gone very differently.

I commented in game that I thought it was probably the least effective if seen Morsy play too. It was more about who they were playing against though, city's press was unreal most of the match and the defence/midfield had no way out. I've never seen Morsy punt the ball aimlessly as much as he did today. [Post edited 24 Aug 2024 23:39]

I tend to agree with the OP. I think he'd be a good player to bring off the bench in winning positions though. Makes a huge number of interceptions and blocks.
McKenna has done the right thing in these opening 2 games, he's placed trust in those who have got us here. However, what we're probably seeing now is the next phase of this Ipswich Town side, just like we saw when we moved up from League One. That's football. |  | | |

To be fair this is a side that puts the likes of Real Madrid to the sword, so if Kroos, Modric and Camavinga struggle, it's no slight or Morsy or Mass if they do too. |  |

Yup, no blame being apportioned. They've definitely met their ceiling as have many against this Man City team. There's no shame in that. We've travelled from League One to this point and this is probably the first game I've seen Sam struggle from start to finish in. | | | |

Tbf he often didn’t have much choice. But at least he’d made the ball his to punt. I thought he worked really hard and probably doing the work of one and a half midfielders for a while. |  | | |

I think we’ve learnt that there is a time to put your foot through the ball and kick for touch upfield (rugby style) just to give space to regroup. The pressure and press from City was relentless and better team than us have faired worse than we did yesterday so it’s no shame for our team to struggle. And they did struggle - let’s be honest City could easily have had 6.
That said, there were passages of play from us that were really good and for long periods I thought we showed real resilience mixed with some decent play. We managed to get through them on enough occasions to give real confidence for what we should do against lesser teams. |  |

i do agree and he was forced into that of course by the quality of the opposition . Sam looks capable of making the huge step up but Massimo will probably struggle . Pity as he has been great since he came in . |  | | |
