The Cherry Red Records Stadium 18:35 - Aug 29 with 2687 views | blue_curacao | I got myself a ticket with the home fans last night. Putting the result of the game to one side, I thought that it was a cracking little stadium. Just the right size for Wimbledon as a club so that I imagine it always feels reasonably full, good views from all stands, close enough to the pitch to get a real feel for the action, plenty of room, good facilities in the very clean/newish feeling stand - I was in the Cappagh stand (main stand to the right of the away fans). The home fans were friendly and chatty - didn't get too upset even though there were clearly a few Ipswich in there (tbf we behaved and didn't react too much to events on the pitch). Wimbledon marshalls have had a bad rap previously but didn't seem to be any issues last night. Not sure what the facilities were like in the away stand? Will definitely take a passing interest in their results going forward and hope they have another good game vs Newcastle.

The away end was a bit of a shambles - had closed half the stands for food and drink for some reason and so it was a massive queue for anything at half time. My mate told me it was no hot food on either.

It's very much designed to be rebuilt and grow. It has planning permission for 20,000, so theoretically can grow to suit and the current incarnation is quite tiny and temporary feeling, but tight - and the flags around the sides help atmosphere. The crowd was delightfully mixed. I live nearby, and I know London is mixed demographics, but I've never been to a ground with so many young, brown, black and female people. It was very refreshing, and people were excited. The security were fine. They clapped the crowd so they didn't create a division between Them and Us, and helped the management of appalling queues outside created by really really bad crowd management from the top - thousands of people missed 15 or more minutes of the game, including me. I hope they do really well. They will love hosting Newcastle in the next round, but before that there's a small game of MK Dons at home - and I'm tempted to go along again.

I nipped out just before half time and gave up because of the queue. The catering in the second tier at the Etihad was pretty crap too. There was virtually no choice of food, and it had all run out when I got there. [Post edited 29 Aug 2024 20:05]

Yes, Many seem to have forgotten all of the underhand dealings that saw the historic stadium previously on this site torn down. [Post edited 29 Aug 2024 20:48]

Great little ground only 15 miles from home. Shame about the lack of food let alone queues for it. I thought I'll buy grub at the ground to support the club. Marched past all the eateries at Wimbledon station only to find Mrs Hubbard at The Cherry Red. Had no food since lunch time so headed back to the station after the match to find every outlet closed and a queue in McD's a mile long, missed the first train and got home at 23.45! Enjoyed the night and chalked another ground off on my quest for the 92. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Strange about the food. The home end had no end of food options - a whole line of food trucks with pizzas, falafels, all sorts. Queues at them, but all very popular, along with a few different bars.
