Ali Al-Hamidi - Time to shine ... 04:54 - Aug 31 with 1939 viewsBellevue_Blue

It's gutting that we didn't manage to get a quality striker yesterday to really compete with Hirst & Delap. However, what an opportunity Ali now has to take considerable steps forward in order to impact this team.

In general, It would be fair to say he's failed to make an impact on our first three games. Be that fitness-related or not, he's now got the best part of 5/6 Premier League games to really showcase that he can compete in this environment.

The squad has massively improved around him and if we are to have a decent go in these games, he has to start properly contributing.

Let's hope playing regularly with Broady/ Chappers etc helps him ...

We signed a fantastic goal scoring striker and his name is Samuel Szmodics. The end

For the love of god, Szmodics is not a striker! And he's certainly not a McKenna striker.

Well then maybe it's time for McKenna to show his versatility.

This is the hand he's got and KMcK has maybe to use it as best as he can. At the moment he has got 2 McKenna strikers and one goes off after 60-70 minutes to be replaced by a rookie ( who is not ready for this standard). If Delap goes down.... we're f#cked. It could be our rookie is really out of his depth and someone like Szmodics is a better option. Remember KMcK used Jackson as a 9 at times. He's not a McKenna 9, but he managed to do a job. Up to Kieran to show his true value and make the best out of it.

As for AAH, he should be out on loan to a L1/ Championship club. Unfair on him, but if he can put in 5/10 performances from the bench with plenty of running and tying up tbe CBs then he'll be doing his job. Not writing him off, but, as yet, I haven't seen anything about him that has 'wowed' me. I expect him putting in an honest shift, though.

When you say al-Hamadi failed to make an impact in our first three games, he was a late sub in two of them (with shots against Liverpool, albeit offside) and scored in the third.

I think his basic talent is good enough (along with fitness and energy), just still a bit raw at this level.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I like the prospect of Ali. But I couldn't tell you what sort of striker he is. He doesn't seem to play a role.

Some posters seem to expect Al Hamadi to go from complete beginner to finished product in three matches. For a start he isn't a complete beginner, he has over sixty senior appearances (over seventy if you count his loan at Bromley) and twelve caps, he has scored twenty seven goals for Wimbledon and Ipswich plus three goals at internationals. He is on a steep learning curve but I wonder if McKenna sees a player who can cause severe disruption in opposition defences at some point later in the season and Al Hamadi will not get to that point unless he gets appearances. When will he be the finished product ? Never, no striker ever is and there are always new tricks that can be learned.

He's only still here as we didn't get another striker. It's not because KM sees him being effective in the prem.

We can just hope he comes comes and he has everyone's support to do so. But let's not pretend he's more than a developing striker on a different level to the likes of delap

He's certainly a different striker to Delap, I'll give you that. But they have similar records when it comes to first team appearances (albeit Delap's are mainly at a couple of divisions above Al Hamadi's), Ali has scored more goals and played in full internationals, there is enough there to put a bit of pressure on Delap even without the imminent return of Hirst. And if McKenna thought he had no real alternative to Delap he would have put Ladapo on the bench in place of Al Hamadi and brought him on for a shop window appearance or two. Or changed formation and played with a false 9.

What's this obsession with strikers. No end of Towns past striker weren't Michael Owens, Rudd Van Nistelroys, Alan Shearer's etc scoring 20 goals plus a season. If for instance Al Hamadi could score ten goals along with the rest of the team chipping in and the defence can prevent the number of goals conceded the last two seasons. I think that's an aim we must achieve. We won't get near 100 goals this season and that's one of the main reasons for McKenna getting in new defenders because as good as we believed Woolfy and co to be they unfortunately aren't Premier League standard.

You were i line for an uppie until that final sentence, I would make the same point about Woolfenden as I did about Al Hamadi. He may not be Premier League standard this morning but if he gets the appearances he will probably be there by Christmas.

Similar goal records. But that tells you very little. The plan was to get a better striker in & send Ali out on loan because right now, he isn't technically good enough for this level. Let's hope Delap stays fit & Hirst returns soon.
