Today was rubbish, no point dressing it up, but..... 18:10 - Oct 5 with 2064 views | Dubtractor | It's just one game - just 6 days ago we were all buzzing after outplaying Villa in the second half. I had mixed feelings about getting promoted last season, the actual moment was amazing and what football is all about, but the jump to this level is vast and the season was always going to be a tough ask, regardless of the signings we've made. That said, the last 2 home games have been hugely encouraging, and you get the impression that Portman Road will be where we pick up the majority of our points. I wonder if McKenna will start to adopt a more cautious approach away from home, as we were far too easy to play through at times today, and we'll get punished by teams at this level. Apologies, that's a bit of a jumbled post, but the main point is that today isn't the end of the world, and it isn't a sign of our impending doom. But we will need to be much better than today to pick up points on the road.

Today was rubbish, no point dressing it up, but..... on 18:38 - Oct 5 with 1924 views | GlasgowBlue | In the first half of last season we were very much a different beast away from home. Winning games 4-3 at home and winning away 1-0. I wonder if we got carried away with last weeks' performance and thought we could be far more open against inferior opposition to Aston Villa.

Yeah, my brother just messaged saying it was like we were caught between a home and away performance today, but without the best bits of either.

Yeh, it was pretty disappointing, I suspect we were a bit more open because we felt we could cause West Ham problems and paid for it really The disappointing elements was the inability to play safe passes going forward, we were very wasteful

I'd also add that we lost the midfield battle today. They gave little support to the defence. Morsy, attempting to avoid a yellow, didn't look interested in making a tackle. Maybe in away games we should be looking to sacrifice and attacking player for an extra man in midfield?

I do think we may need to look at lining up slightly differently away from home. This sort of hybrid system we play with Leif high & the RB tucking in leaves us a bit lopsided & against quality on the counter we will get found out. Just look at today, they tore us apart down both flanks.

Yeah alluded to this elsewhere in the thread. Definitely feel it needs to be considered, can’t be as easy to play against as we were today.

Was gonna put taylor. But thought better as finisher. And don't think luongo can do more than a half in prem. Johnson he has to has something about him. Just not at the back. And he did put in that excellent ball for Sammy at city. But no. I'd choose a different cm if we had a better option from the start.

Today was rubbish, no point dressing it up, but..... on 22:04 - Oct 5 with 1314 views | LankHenners | I'm a bit torn between going in on the need for an 'away performance' today and just simply thinking we didn't play very well, made too many mistakes and got beaten because of it. That's football and happens all the time. One of our biggest issues was that we lost possession too easily high-ish up the pitch and West Ham were very good at recycling the ball and moving it quickly up the field, meaning we were having to defend them whilst chasing back into shape which is always dangerous. We'll obviously work on getting better at that and McKenna's already mentioned about the increased need at this level for making the right decisions, playing the right passes etc. McKenna's also said about having a certain approach for 'big' away games where we're likely to be under the cosh a lot which worked almost perfectly at Brighton although I mentioned earlier maybe we were forced into doing that as they were so strongly on the front foot from the off. Actually didn't think we were too bad for much of the first half and while we always looked vulnerable when they were running at us, we had a good spell where we looked more likely to create something. Then the Muric/Morsy incident almost let them in and it was as if they suddenly remembered they could be a bit more proactive and the game changed in their favour. Once they scored we were in a position where we had to chase the game to an extent so couldn't be overly cautious, then a stupid 3rd goal makes it really difficult. I guess the tl;dr version is - I don't think our initial approach to the game was all that wrong, we just didn't do a very good job of it and got punished.

So none of our 7 players that play behind the no 9 but 2 no 9s!!
Today was rubbish, no point dressing it up, but..... on 00:44 - Oct 6 with 1134 views | quirkie | It was 3pts we all hoped we were going to get against the Hammers as they have been poor at home so far. Alas, McKenna got this one wrong, we went toe to toe with Villa at Home but not going to be able to do that against experienced Premier League sides away from home no matter how bad a start they have had to the season. Portman road is really where we are going to be getting the wins this season, and we need 7 or 8 of them before the end of the season to stay up. We might also get the odd away win, but it'll be draws away from home that'll help with the points tally. Looking forward to Everton, just wish we didn't have this nonsense break in the season again. Why not? Away from home. Keep it tight and counter. Be a bit direct. Then utilise your finishers late on with some of those 7 coming on. At the moment we aren't exactly making use of any of them are we?
