Can we play this style in the PL? 08:22 - Oct 6 with 1517 views | ITFCBlues | We look so open, not just yesterday but have done this season. Muric just doesn't look at all capable of playing out from the back. His decision making just isn't good enough. As good as he is with his feet, he is an accident waiting to happen with his feet. I think we need to be a bit more direct. Also wonder if we may need to switch to a back 3 away from home and try to be a little more pragmatic and hit sides on the break. We could've conceded more than the 4 we did today if we're being honest and even at Brighton when we did keep a clean sheet, they had plenty of chances. I admire the fact that KM wants to stick to his principles, but like Kompany last season, I think that a failure to adapt will be terminal.

Can we play this style in the PL? on 08:36 - Oct 6 with 1455 views | ElephantintheRoom | Yes. Burnley did last season. It’s just trying it with a bunch of strangers makes it look so bad. ( don’t forget they made Southampton look good). As those accustomed to the real world were saying pre-season, there are quite a few teams better than WBA, Norwich and Leeds in the Prem….. plenty more of this to come - and the joy of 17th looks possible - but even if the strangers get to know each other and are better than the jettisoned and marginalised players the franchise will probably do a Burnley unless McKenna wakes up.

We need to find a way to play away from home though. It is a tough balance to strike because you have to be able to keep the ball for periods of time and carry some attacking threat. You can't be too direct as you just keep giving the ball back to the opposition and all teams at this level have players that can hurt you.

It cost the manager his job in those instances, as the players struggled to gel. Given the number of changes, I don't think we've been too bad, and we did need new recruits. But it was always going to be tough and it............ takes time to gel. God I hate that phrase.

Yep agree, the truth is we'll need to win about ten games so it's realistically all about the home games against those bottom sides, the good news is we haven't played one of those games yet, we've shown against Fulham(top ten side), Villa(top 6 side) and Liverpool first half that we can compete at home, so there is still a lot play for.. Sometimes you just have to go long and get up the pitch, especially away from home, get set and organized and compete from there, but yes it's easier said than done given the quality we're now up against.

Some fair points...I just wish you'd stop calling us the franchise.

He wont be happy until the team news is written on the back of a pack of John Players and Motson comes back from the grave; I wouldn't worry too much.

Yes, I think you need to know when to play and when not to play within games. For 5 mins or so before half time yesterday it was obvious we needed to reset and we needed to just get up the pitch. Generally, we've always been good under McKenna at reading the mood but for whatever reason we really didn't manage the game well yesterday. I think there probably needs to be some realistic expectation setting around away games. People need to get used to any point away from home being a good point. You look at last season's away table and see how tough it is when even teams like Newcastle are losing 11 out of 19. https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/premier-league/2023-24/ [Post edited 6 Oct 2024 10:53]

Do you call us a franchise because the majority of our owners happen to be American? Or because you have some inkling as to what a franchise actually is? And what is the source of your arrogant comment that McKenna is not awake? Must he be asleep not to have gleaned the educated insights that you have clearly derived from the evidence thus far? Or are you just (constantly, repetitively) on the wind up? I would rather a Norwich fan come on here and laugh at us after a big defeat than read your offensive nonsense. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

On, knowing when to play within games, losing the ball from a short goal kick yesterday epitomised that. The danger was obvious and we still did it, even though they didn’t score that pressure contributed to going in 2-1 down. McK is right I think when said that on 35 minutes we had had a good half. The next ten minutes were really poor from us and saved West Ham being booed off at half-time.

The good thing is that we can be 100% sure KM will look at that over and over, analyse it to death, work out how we should do things differently in future, and coach the players accordingly.
