Not a word I've used very much since my first year at Uni, where Catholic recusancy in Tudor England seemed to loom large.

Weirdly, serendipitous came up in conversation today. Very random choice of word!

Keno's word of the day - Recusancy on 15:02 - Oct 18 with 1311 views | DJR | The process of recusing oneself? ie. not being involved in decisions in which you have an interest. EDIT: I've looked it up. My definition of recusing is correct but recusancy means something different. Both come from the Latin recusare (to reject). I did both the Tudors and the Reformation for A-level history so would probably have known the meaning at one time. [Post edited 18 Oct 2024 15:17]

| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |
