Republica / Ready to go. An ITFC core memory. 16:15 - Oct 23 with 1820 viewsMatt_Netherlands

Picture the scene….

It’s the early 2000’s

2.52pm on a Saturday afternoon

In the late autumn afternoon sun, the back of the AXA building has a slight tinge of orange to it

Looking around, it looks like there could be 20k in today

You stuff your Labrokes betslip into your pocket

The players have finished their warm ups and are off the pitch

The “this sound is an important announcement” address has just finished

Then this banger comes on

Peak ITFC teenage memories right there. Sure this song will unlock something on the memories of many.

(Those memories are as good as that imaginary day gets. We lose 2-1 to Cardiff or someone, probably. )

I think I'm right in saying that the lead singer, Saffron, was the girl in the Chesney Hawkes video for The One and Only.

Did you hear this on Scott Mills today? I also outlined exactly what you said to my other half and was told that I was obsessed with Ipswich Town!

Although very true, this song brought back great memories of the Burley era which ended in promotion. I still remember the feeling of anticipation with this song booming out just ahead of the teams coming out.

I believe this was the same era of when ‘Right here, Right now’ started.

Ahhhhh yes. A pre match classic. Always takes you back whenever you hear it doesn’t it.

Then you got your ‘doooo ya feel alright…duh duh duh duh duh’ and the players ran out belting balls onto the pitch.

That was my peak 'miss first ten minutes of the match' period as another round would be purchased at about 10 to 3.

That's what I proper miss about pre-match. Would also get a couple of players doing imaginary jumps to head a ball.

None of this walking out together nonsense.

I didn’t, but I wish I did! Came up on Spotify for me.

Right here, right now is another classic. Seem to remember that would always be the very last song played before the bell went and the players came out of the tunnel, just as the tunnel was being rolled out.

In that sort of era, what song did the players come out to?! I can’t actually recall that part of the build up. But it was definitely the era of players sprinting out of the tunnel, none of this slow walking woke nonsense!

This and Right Here, Right now were classics.

Oddly I remember The Final Countdown being used pre kick off for a period as well, that worked quite well too!

Right here right now always brings back the taste of beer, pie and a Marlboro Light in anticipation of the players coming out during the Royle era, which in hindsight was way more fun than I appreciated at the time. Apologies to those around me who were subject to my second hand smoke.

They used to play Final Countdown when the players came out for the second half.

I did my work experience at the EADT for mike noye's wife. She knew i was a big town fan so let me do any errands that needed running at portman road. They'd moved away from republica at the time and mike asked me what i thought should be the walkout music so i asked him to bring republica back, which he did.

My one contribution.
