6 days before she visited the scene of the Ladbroke Grove rail crash. I attended that crash and saw the devastation and death it caused.

It feels as if there's been a decent shift over the last few years. I can't imagine that an institution such as The Times would have been quite so critical whilst Liz was about. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Charles snuffs it.

Liz was an interesting one because, thanks to her time in the role, it was a real era-defining/ending moment, which gave a little bit of credence to the Establishment's stance that "now is not the time" for a discussion on the future of the monarchy.

If Charles doesn't find himself enjoying the same levels of approval as Liz, and ends up being more of a caretaker monarch, the end of the third Carolean era might be seen as a better time to have some grown-up discussions.
