You just know she's a curtain twitcher with nothing better to do. Some people just hate people having a bit of fun.

This comes up every year around this time. Anyone who's in a local FaceBook group will know the joy.

I don't see how restricting to Nov 5th works though, given most displays will be set off on the nearest Saturday rather than the day itself.

Literally thousands of organised events have fireworks throughout the year. They gonna ban all those too? I dont think they'll be banned because Tiddles did a pee on the floor.

Such a modern day whingeathon when it comes to fireworks.

I remember as a kid we used to have a box of fireworks in the back garden as did most of the neighbours but hardly anyone bothers anymore so not to upset the Karen’s on Facebook moaning about them upsetting their dogs.

Should tell that to people around me who have them going off for the 2 weeks before and after bonfire night every single night.

I am unfortunately one of those people who has a dog who doesn't like fireworks so whilst I know it's a source of fun for everyone, it's a bit annoying that I have to stay in over those two weeks to make sure she doesn't hurt herself when she gets too nervous.

Could deal with it if it was just one night a year or if they were the silent ones but it's basically non-stop for a whole month.

Guess I'm a Karen...

For a number of years after Nov 5th we would have someone who lived pretty close to me let of the loudest banger you have heard but at random times.

One year he did it and someone was walking their dog on the green, the dog ran off and wasn’t seen for a day,it did eventually come home thankfully.

I don’t mind them I don’t like them if they scare animals though.

Agree. My cat hates fireworks and they stress her out. She will go sit on the stairs as that's her safe space. However, this woman is an utter hypocrite. She supports fox hunting apparently, but doesnt like her horses getting upset by fireworks.

….stick bangers through letterboxes back in the day, never did any harm.

Whole country has gone soft these days.

A Karen is a "I WANT to speak to the manager NOW" type that likes to complain. There seems to be no male equivalent though. A Keith?

Depends who is defining "fun"

In the words of the Sex Pistols
"God save Martin Borman and Nazis on the run
They wasn't being wicked god, it was their idea of fun"

See also Venables & Thompson

I grew up on the edge of town, so our firework escapades largely took place away from people and domestic animals. The most malicious we got was to fire rockets at the busses as they turned around at the end of their route.

The only fireworks that bug me are the ones that go off just as I am going to sleep and wake me up.

Also, the 2019 commons enquiry (which I believe Ms Doorne and her crew gave evidence) concluded that “greater restrictions on the sale and use of fireworks would not be appropriate “ as it would present a greater risk to the public and be more difficult to police due to the back market.

The police, fire service, trading standards & HSE are all against a ban
