Rachel reeves driving up prices with tax and spend budget warns Bank of England 09:01 - Nov 8 with 8137 viewsZapers

The Bank of England last night warned Britain is facing a fresh spike in inflation as rachel reeves tax and spend budget piles extra pressure onto households and businesses.

Lenders have been raising mortgage costs in recent days despite the Bank's highly anticipated interest rate cut to 4.75pc on Thursday, with financial markets betting it will be the only cut this year.

Governor Andrew Bailey said a "Substantial" increase in public spending and tax changes that "clearly raise the cost of employment " will drive prices higher over the next three years.

I presume this still wont affect the working person.

Cheers dubs. Things they’re doing might not work, and it seems there will be some losers (including some cold pensioners, which is far from ideal). And I know many of us would like them to go after the mega rich. But at least they’re trying to do something rather than wanging on about immigrants.

As you say not “Ideal”. Shame on you!

That’s very interesting. Thank you for posting that link. It’s striking that economy was the absolute main priority for Trump voters, as I tried to explain above.
Immigration was then the next most important issue for these voters
As I also said above, these concerns just weren’t addressed by the Harris campaign
They did address the state if democracy concerns, however were largely just preaching to the converted (according to that link)
Interesting read, thank you

you can't ignore half the country, just because they didn't vote for trump, your "fact" that economy and immigration were the top issues for usa voters is objectively false.

your other "fact" that harris didn't address the economy in her campaign is also objectively false. you could argue that your opinion is that she should have addressed it more.

you need to realise the difference between empirical facts and subjective opinions.

Poll: do you do judo and/or do you do voodoo?

Thanks for the lesson. Reality is there was no point in Harris talking to her own base, she needed to to reach out to the 2,3,4 pc of undecided voters whose main concerns were the economy, immigration. She didn’t. She did terribly. You don’t understand why. I can’t continue to converse with someone who is so obtuse. Things will get no better for the left until they embrace the centre ground, and learn to listen. You are a case in point of why Trump won the IS election and why Farage may well win the UK in 2029. I sinceeely hope I’m wrong, but until you start to learn to listen, these people will continue winning. Blair and Cameron still talk a lot of sense. Yiu may argue both let us down, for different reasons, and I would agree with that . But absent them - you’re left with Trump and Farage, and so am I, much to my disgust and despair. Have a lovely evening.

there is always point in talking to your own base, you have to get the vote out and she failed at that.

i'd agree she could've combatted trump's lies about the economy better, but ignoring the base would've lost more votes, taking them for granted is always an error (and a big reason for labour losing so many votes to the greens/independents)

the "left" as you call it are doing fine, labour won a big majority and the greens and lib-dems advanced strongly.

blair is basically starmer, so you should be happy with that, but badenoch is no cameron, far more ids!

Starmer is nothing like Blair! Blair was centrist, charismatic and exciting. Starmer is left, dour and dull. I agree on Badenoch (I think). Too entrenched in the culture wars. I couldn’t care less about immigration rhetoric, culture wars etc. I just want a dynamic, centre-centre header, to push the economy forward. Starber is not that. IDS was an idiot. Brexit was idiocy. Common sense lost

Why is it shame on me that I think it’s bad they’ve taken away the winter fuel allowance as a universal benefit?
