Rachel reeves driving up prices with tax and spend budget warns Bank of England 09:01 - Nov 8 with 8143 viewsZapers

The Bank of England last night warned Britain is facing a fresh spike in inflation as rachel reeves tax and spend budget piles extra pressure onto households and businesses.

Lenders have been raising mortgage costs in recent days despite the Bank's highly anticipated interest rate cut to 4.75pc on Thursday, with financial markets betting it will be the only cut this year.

Governor Andrew Bailey said a "Substantial" increase in public spending and tax changes that "clearly raise the cost of employment " will drive prices higher over the next three years.

I presume this still wont affect the working person.

If they really thought it would massively spike inflation, they would not have reduced rates this week....

Such a shame that the conservatives failed to actually maintain essential services properly, necessitating this action now.

I believe it was a very close vote, finally in favour.

However if there are signs of further inflation, it will soon go back up, along with government gilts.

As I say (and you avoid) such a shame the conduct of the previous government has made it necessary.

Reducing NI as an electoral bribe, when the public finances were so poor, was utterly disgraceful.

Why would you believe that when it was 8 to 1?

Edit....and you must be furious at Trump's inflationary proposed tariffs?

A bit of wider context.....

Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey offered reassurance, saying it was "likely that interest rates will continue to fall gradually from here".

If they [the media you’re quoting from] were that worried about inflation, they’d mention corporate profits, which are by far the biggest driver of inflation.

Also, be good to know where you’re c&p’ing that from.

Indeed. Whilst healthy political debate is great, this constant stream of misinformation and actively misleading propaganda is seriously damaging human society and could have far reaching implications.

People live in echo chambers where algorhythms simply tell them what they want to hear, and encourage them to share what they have read or heard as if it were fact. Polarising and dangerous.

'The wealth of the 10 richest people in the world – a list dominated by US tech billionaires – increased by a record amount after Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, according to a widely cited index.
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimated that the world’s 10 wealthiest people gained nearly $64bn (about £49.5bn) on Wednesday, the largest daily increase since the index began in 2012.'

It was not a close vote, they voted 8-1 to lower interest rates.

They said inflation would probably rise but to levels far below what we saw under the Tories and that there would be a gradual decreasing of rates going forward.

So pretty much the opposite of what you've said thus far on this thread.

Nope. It was 8 to 1 in favour of a rate cut. One wanted to hold. My concern is that the increase in spending and piling extra cost on to industry doesn't achieve that much and causes more misery to those with mortgages by the cost of them not coming down whilst pay rises are hit by the extra cost of N.I. contributions to employers. It may also lead to more strikes as Unions gain more power under Labour. I have seen waste first hand within Governmental departments and I wonder who and what will stop this happening. It could lead to Labour just pouring more money into the so called Black Hole that Labour say the Tories left. If this all backfires so we are no better off and maybe worse off after 14 years of going through years of austerity under the Tories we might see many more years under Labour. Isn't the best thing just to ignore, and not respond to, posts or threads which appear to me to be deliberately provocative, often misinformed and not really designed to further proper debate?

If that was done, they would soon die a death, or just become echo chambers for a few like-minded posters.

Its worth noting that half of the budget tax increase is just replacing the cut that the previous government made, when it was plainly innappropriate to do so.

it's an interesting discussion but when someone's continuously lying, being corrected and then lying again, it's best to call them out.

facts are important, and if the liars are unchallenged, have more chance of being believed by the gullible or those who don't have time to research everything and look behind the bluster

I really take issue with the continuing call for mortgage rates to come down. Interest rates are currently at a "normal" historical level. The outlier has been the low interest rate environment as a result of the global economic crisis

https://tradingeconomics.com/united-kingdom/interest-rate

What we need is adults talking facts in political discourse, but instead we get intellectual pygmies or charismatic chancers peddling easy solutions to complex problems. And wht happens when the easy solutions don't work? More distrust in politicians and further moves towards populism.
