Such nostalgia, thanks for posting. That was the first Premier League season, when Man Utd won the title and we finished 16th out of 22.
22,068 was a sell out crowd back then. I noticed that when Man Utd scored lots of their fans celebrated in the north stand, something I often remember happening as away fans bought tickets all over the stadium.
Gosh, the pitch was rough. That probably helped level things up.
Good to see both sides wearing their home shirts, classic shirts too which were not changed every season.
There were no flashing betting adverts in those days. I can see Umbro, Lucozade, Bic razor, Ransomes, McDonalds, Fisons, Intertravel, Northern Rock, Morelli...
Yallop, who scored about 7 for us in total over the years, rocked up with a banger in both.
Was in Churchmans for this one and right behind the corner it flew into.
I was in the lower west stand (GG) close to where I sit now and I didn’t remember much about the game at all tbh so ta for posting.
It was a strange season. Good first half poor second but it did carry memorable moments. Norwich home and away, Leeds, Blackburn over Christmas, Man City well beaten (they weren’t much in those days and were well beaten) and Brian Clough’s last game. God, he looked unwell, but the crowd gave him a standing ovation.
The ground pretty much sold out for some of the games, but by no means all. 17k for the opening match against Villa. 15k v Saints and Oldham. How times change.
