I think you’ve just shown why he got some pushback. You’ve provided some information and raised an issue. People can engage with that. Frimmers just dropped a tweet with no context whatsoever off the back of a barrage of similar types of anti-Labour posts by others over the last week or so.

I'll be honest Swansea. With the automatic replies to that tweet I didn't think my OP needed any context I'd assumed the forum were in the know.

Ah right, that explains it. Those of us not on Twitter can’t see the replies. We only see the original tweet you posted, which is why it looked like a very random whinge. With Ryorry’s explanation it makes sense now if that’s the sort of stuff you can see in the replies. Apologies - I should butt out of anything involving Twitter.

I’d also seen this tweet on X, knew nothing about Blackrock so had a very quick not in depth search, but came up with this, in light of which am surprised the OP got so many downvotes -

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/nov/20/blackrock-climate-human-righ

“ To support their complaint, Friends of the Earth investigated publicly available data on BlackRock’s shareholdings between January 2019 and June 2024 in 20 agribusiness companies that have been implicated in environmental and human rights abuses, operating in the palm oil, pulp/paper, soy, cattle, timber and biomass sectors. It found BlackRock has more than $5bn invested in these companies, an increase since 2019 of $519m. In each of the companies is it a top 10 shareholder.”.

BlackRock have $11.5t under management. That is trillion.

It's basically like the Guardian moaning at me or you for buying a hot dog from a dodgy market trader.

I know the Guardian's heart is in the right place but anyone who actually knows money would just laugh at these contextually trivial accusations.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

If Frimmers is criticising Starmer for tacitly endorsing Blackrock, one of the best examples of disaster capitalistic organisations in the world, as a way to “put more money in people’s pockets” then he’s right. If this was I dunno Teresa May tweeting this in 2017 you’d all be having a baby.

Not at all. Hence the use of contextually. Perhaps the nuance missed you.

I didn’t need or use the twitter replies to respond, I simply searched for less than a minute, which is what anyone could have done. Does seem like the man not the ball being played here, not for the first time.

Others of us may think that deforestation of the Amazon, and human rights abuses are not OK.
