If Cajuste was pushed forward to be an advanced 8/lower 10 then I see a fair argument for trying this. It's definitely a way of getting our best players out on the pitch at once. |  |

Might be something we do sometimes but we're not going to change to this long term realistically, so Chaplin not suiting this isn't a problem for me.
I don't feel like we can play a three and still not find a spot for Taylor. I think Cajuste misses out in that scenario. I want Phillips to really get back in and cement his place, because he's been really good at times. |  |

Converting chances into goals isn’t the problem, that is not creating enough chances.
Having an extra body in midfield, prepared to carry the ball forward, would make a difference. Preferable to a front player falling back to get it as it can be executed quicker.
Would also stop us being outnumbered in a critical area. |  |

Quite. I’d go all Kevin Keegan with a 2-0-8.
I do find fans’ fascination in general with nominal starting formations quite odd. Most teams play relatively fluid games now, working various overloads on different parts of the pitch at different times. And that’s just in possession. There are then different defensive blocks employed depending on the score line/stage of the game.
(Reading that back seems like I’m being harsh on the OP - I don’t mean to be. Chewing the fat about the team is all part of being a fan of course). [Post edited 6 Dec 2024 14:24]
