Hope those who walked out after the second goal 20:14 - Dec 8 with 3096 views | Garv | saved lots of time in the car park. Amused me when they all stopped on the stairs when they realized it was being reviewed by VAR. Maybe don't leave just because we conceded? Anyway. McKenna can't get more out of this squad than he's getting. Simple as that. The closest he gets to saying it is when he talks about how good other club's squads are. He's obviously not going to say we have inferior individual players, but that is more or less it at the moment. The old cliche comes to mind about not being good enough in both boxes, we are just not quite as good as the opposition at putting the ball in the net or keeping it out. Everything in between we're fine at. We had chances (and half chances) to go 2-0 today, both first and second half. Hate to single him out but Szmodics epitomizes what we are at the moment - full of endeavor and good movement, well organized, but just not quite good enough compared to our opposition. He had two shots from the corner of the box first half that other teams' flair players will score, and the chance second half low to the keeper's right hand was our best opportunity to win the game. Subs are an issue. Neither winger really helped us and while AAH deserves more respect for his performances he's obviously not Delap or Hirst. Tuanzebe again a miss today as well. I know we need to accept things like that it just shows what McKenna is up against. There's positives like there are most weeks. We played well for starters ("trust the process and focus on performances" etc), Chaplin, Taylor and Burgess all played really well. The decision to play Greaves against Palace looks even worse now, Burgess is first choice at the moment. For a first PL start in an open game Taylor was superb. Onto Wolves. AAH or Szmodics up front? Edit: thought Delap was suspended. He lives to foul another day. [Post edited 8 Dec 2024 22:31]

Accounting for Delap's suspension?

I got that part, but given the choice of player, and that you have eyes, there’s only one option?

Fitness will dictate that AAH can't play 60/70 minutes I'm sure. But playing a lone striker role for that amount of time in the PL for someone of SS's stature will not be easy.

Do you mean generally let down with the calibre of signings we made, or let down by the players not being as good as they should be? I thought we signed well in the summer and most of them have worked out so far (never going to get all of them(.

I’d say the quality, personally. And the lack of a striker

I highly doubt AAH could manage 30/40mins, fitness wise. Feels such a huge kick in the teeth that we’ve got ourselves in the PL, and it’s even talked about for a player with no L1 experience, and 40-60mins of championship football to his name, being even an option. (It’s not his fault of course)

Good spot. I was convinced I'd read he and Morsy were both on 4 before today.

I thought the profile of signing was really good- all with knowledge of the English game, already living in the country, all young and expected to develop, most with high expected ceilings and resale value. I agree completely on the forward though- I thought it was a great transfer window, but the failure to sign another forward felt at the time like it had massively undermined all the other work, as it was such a key signing. And here we are- the forward who missed a large chunk of last season with an injury has suffered two more injuries and we are left with only one remaining forward, who we cant therefore rotate and is looking tired and inexperienced.

Hirst has been injured nearly as much as he’s been fit. Can’t honestly believe they left us in this position

Hope those who walked out after the second goal on 21:25 - Dec 8 with 2209 views | FrimleyBlue | But if you know you have inferior players. Why risk a win by bringing on inferior players late in a game. The right hand side was an issue anyway so can't see how burns who's struggled all season was going to help the situation. The problem was he's so stubborn to not having cb on the bench the ideal sub would actually have been wolfy on and move oshea right so that hutch had better protection behind him. By bringing hutch off you're removing a player who can gain freekicks in tough situations but also can find his way past a man when we are trouble. He had phillips on the bench. Why if not fit to play. What better scenario to have phillips come on than a 1-0 lead and you want to add a bit of toughness in midfield to see you through. Couldn't we have gone 4 3 2 1 on the ball and 5 4 1 off it? I don't get KMs thinking and until he starts winning games then no I'm not gonna think he's getting it right. I want to see some desire and desperation to win games not keep on playing the same way. Making the same subs then commenting after about how well players are developing. Let's see Jack clarke be the winger he was. Not the inverted winger development in progress. Let's see szmodics in the middle. Let's see some sacrificial games so the next one you've got fully fit best players. Coz at the moment he's flogging the same dead horse and wondering why its not winning.

It was Morsy and Hutchinson on 4 yellows before today, not ideal to have Delap join that club.

And also cant be ignored that Hirst has only really had half a season of good Championship football in his career up to this season. Not saying he cant step up, but if we didnt have him already, I doubt he would have been someone we would have targetted for the PL. Given Delap also came with little experience, but bags of potential, it was a huge risk not to get any more. Even if they were both excellent established PL level forwards, its still a huge risk as we know we need two of them to rotate in every game anyway.
Hope those who walked out after the second goal on 21:38 - Dec 8 with 2090 views | BlueOura | I must have been watching a different Taylor, thought he was ok in the first half but awful in the second. At one point I thought he must be injured as he seemed to completley stop running for about 10 minutes. He is a decent Championship midfielder, but nowhere near PL class, in my opinion.

I think Taylor has looked a better player in the Prem than he did in the Championship, so far. On today's game, he made a few minor errors in the second half, but had a pretty good game on the whole. Not sure Liverpool will be knocking on our door in January for him, but he's looked solid enough for a year one prem side.
