Cam Burgess display a big positive, along with those of Jack Taylor, Chaplin, their journeys from where they've come from.

Any word if there have been any contract talks with Burgess (assuming his deal does expire this summer)?

Looks like there is no change in the GK then judging by these comments.

Did you really think there would be?

Stick with Muric, it's the best thing for him and us.

I don't get this new modern football where you don't stick a player with the u23s to gain match fitness then bring them back in.

I think the issue is that the U21s play at a much lower level of intensity and they'd gain less match fitness playing there than they would do staying training with the 1st team.

Indeed, training with the first team is viewed as much better at getting up to speed.

Other than under Paul Lambert, obviously, when players would rather go and train with Kieron Dyer and Terry Butcher as they knew they'd get fitter working with them.

But couldn't they train with first team then play an u21 game to see if they can manage 30 40 minutes etc.

I appreciate the differences of levels. But surely a match is a match when it comes to checking on fitness levels.

I think there's a bit more to it than that. The whole training week with gym sessions, structured recovery, tactical training, etc is scheduled around when the 1st team games are.

You'd effectively be taking someone out of that cycle just to play 30/40 minutes in a low level game. After that they'd then still need to do recovery, which would be mean they'd be out of sync with their team mates. Just 'chucking them in' would just further increase the risk of further injury with less benefit.

The 'tactical periodisation' approach that McKenna prefers means that a lot of the training is completed in game situations played at the same intensity as they'll play at which is why that's more advantageous than just some low level match time.

Thank you. Excellent summary. Makes sense why alot of clubs don't do it now.

Well yes, I am beginning to wonder if he's not visiting us more points than he's saving us tbh.

Who are you suggesting take his place then?

Our strength these past 2 seasons has been having a consistent back 4 (5 including the keeper) and general 11 overall.

League 1;
Walton
RB Woolf Burgess Davis

Championship;
Hladky
RB Woolf Burgess Davis

Swapping the keeper every other week won’t do anyone any good. Stick with Muric and help develop him and the rest of the back 4 to consistently produce on a weekly basis.
