Hats off to Block A and these gents on Saturday 09:42 - Dec 23 with 2974 viewsunstableblue

Loved the committed singing to the end

And hats off to those of us who stayed to the end to give the players a good clap and cheer off the pitch

Which McKenna said was appreciated

Quite a few fans left the West Stand at half time on Saturday much to the bemusement of the steward on the gate

Poll: How do you rate the new home kit out of 5?

Agreed. To this day it still surprises me how many apparently normal functioning people seem to think that staying behind to applaud the players off is to bask in reflected glory rather than to commend them for their efforts and endeavour.

However outclassed we were on Saturday, the players put in a shift and represented the club with pride and gusto in difficult circumstances when they could easily have capitulated. They deserved better than to be met with people’s backs and empty seats.

I was proud of my eldest who was quite vocally mocking those around us for leaving early. Trying to bring him up never to quit or give up until the very end. He remembers the days when we would be the only two in our row for the entire match. At least we got to reminisce about the ‘bad’ old days, though it seems strange to be doing so with one so young.

For one thing Phillips, Taylor and Broadhead put in positive sub appearances (albeit against a Newcastle team taking their foot off the gas)… and Ali ran around with energy despite his limitations

Those deserved some fan cheer at the end

You are proud of vocal mocking?

You do you, but I just watch the game not what the NPCs around me are doing.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I have to admit I had thoughts of bugging-out @HT but stayed until the final whistle in the end. Didn’t stay for the any longer mind - but that was in part due to feeling like pooh and having a 3 hour drive home.

This was one of those matches when we just needed to get behind the team for the duration - I think after the last 2 seasons we owe them at least that if we are true fans…

Just trying to find something to have a laugh about and not take life too seriously. Never really seen the point of going to a live event and ignoring everything going on around you, it is an immersive experience after all. Dare I say he also found humour in the way the Geordies pronounced 'away'?

I did leave a few mins early, probably the second time I can think of in a few years (the other time I did miss a last min goal, but had to leave for my daughter, she was young and panicking, first time in Ipswich and was alone)

This time, I had to get back to Lowestoft for a meal out with friends, so with VAR etc now making things worse and worse, I just couldn't hang on any longer.

Would have happily stayed to end and clapped my team for effort. Just felt we were done by a better team today, nothing really went our way at all.

It's quite an interesting thing really staying and clapping when you think about it.

It's the right thing to do as you're supporting your club and those that represent it.

On the other side you're clapping employees who are well paid to kick a football. You don't go to a supermarket and before you leave applaud the shop staff for their efforts lol.

So absolutely keep doing it but it's also quite funny It's done too.

a niche perspective

Philips made a point of applauding the support at the end as well.

Yes, and they have been brilliant for the last few years as well, keep up the good work guy's, we always stay behind and applaud the players because win or lose they give their all, and under KMc we are getting a very good level of entertaining football. I loved the Cobbold "Ali appreciation group" post match as well.

I see exactly where you’re coming from.

I never clap the team when they walk out at the start on the premise that I don’t get a round of applause when I walk to my desk at work lol.

And I’m a grumpy sod who’s not enjoying being at games at the moment but that’s another story altogether.

I left when the fourth goal went in because it was clearly not our day, was cold, wet and there was nothing to be gained by standing there watching us get slapped.

Never have bought this need to just stand there being miserable in the face of supposed loyalty, just get on with your day and move on. That's a decision I would make (and indeed have made) in the Premier League, Championship and League One so it isn't a question of glory hunting or whatever else you might call it.

I stayed to c.92 mins when Newcastle were ole'ing and we hadn't touched the ball in 5 minutes.

Saturday was one of those games where it was clearly done as a contest at the hour. Maybe earlier. There was nothing to be gained by staying but equally I had no where else desperately better to be.

I am each to there own on this stuff. I generally only leave early if I have to catch a train that makes an hours difference or the game has turned into a training scenario.

I know that was then, but it could be again..
