Muric Best Save Percentage of all Premier League Goalkeepers in 2024 08:00 - Jan 2 with 6465 views | melbs_itfc | According to this BBC Sport article. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/clyk2x61p45o “The statistics also highlight why Ipswich, who were promoted to the top flight at the end of last season, brought in Kosovo international Arijanet Muric to help in their bid to stay up this term. Muric played the final 10 games of last season with Burnley, where he had an average save percentage of 79.8% - more than any other goalkeeper who made 20 or more saves. Including his 17 games for Ipswich so far this term, he boasted the best save percentage of any Premier League goalkeeper, with 73.14% in the calendar year.”

Muric Best Save Percentage of all Premier League Goalkeepers in 2024 on 09:39 - Jan 2 by StockholmBlue | I agree with this beeing a weakness of Muric. From my perspective, what makes Muric look nervous is partly that he invites pressure from the forward. Walton seemed to make his mind up early and made the pass well in time before the Chelsea forward came close to him. Muric on the other hand seem to wait and wait with his decision making and the forward gets closer and closer as well as the alternatives for Muric gets less and less, and then it all ends with him passing it in the last split second before lit is too late. Often resulting in him almost panicking resulting in a pass of quite poor quality. It might be that this is his instruction to invite pressure as late as possible, but i dont think Muric likes it, not comfortibel with it, makes him nervous, which transponds ro the rest of the team. |
+1. I think another telltale sign here is how comfortable the players were with Walton. Dara O'Shea pushes him to do the fist pumps with the crowd, Woolfy jumping on him and congratulating him after that., they just seemed so much more relaxed and at ease with Walton in goal over Muric. And, that then transcended to the whole stadium with no edgy vibes. Walton was also more vocal with the defence than Muric is, he told Greaves a couple of times he wanted the ball on his left foot after Greaves passed it to him twice on his right. Walton simply has to stay in now.

That's all part of the tactic isn't it? Invite the other team forward as much as possible then release and break with speed. It's what we saw with Hladky all the time last season. Gave me kittens!

Muric Best Save Percentage of all Premier League Goalkeepers in 2024 on 09:07 - Jan 2 by NthQldITFC | Is there any point in mentioning the obvious logical flaw? |
😂😂😂 Blows my mind the number of uppies you got for that. Love the simplistic nature of ‘keeper makes 131 saves therefore keeper is a good goalkeeper’. Did a team of monkeys come up with that or were you one of the statisticians working on this day and night? [Post edited 2 Jan 21:46]

Muric's flaws are obvious and get magnified. Walton's flaws are more subtle or people choose to ignore them. Muric's performances aren't comparable to Walton's - Walton chose/was instructed to kick long, Muric has long been instructed to play short, with all the risks that brings.

So what you’re saying is Muric fails to do what he’s been instructed as a proof point he’s a better keeper than Walton? Right. What about the other clangers Muric has made that have nothing to do with kicking? Let’s just let the remainder of the season pan out. It’s Walton’s shirt to lose now or at least, it should be.

No, @Chris_ITFC isn’t saying that at all - and I’m sure you realise that, rather than not comprehending. Based on the evidence of the games, Muric is asked to play the higher risk tactics, and by its very nature this is more likely to go wrong (not necessarily due to a mistake, just percentages). High risk, high return football. I get why this style makes people nervous, but it’s a foundation of our game. If Walton keeps the shirt, I suspect he’ll be expected to kick long less in coming games. He’ll need to adapt to fit how McM wants the team to play. Then the two can be compared more fairly.

No, I’m saying if Walton had been our GK all season, having to play short like Muric has been, the limited evidence of his footwork against Chelsea suggests that he too would’ve been causing a lot of angst and nervousness amongst the fan base. He might not have made some of the poor decisions, but he also wouldn’t have shown the important dominance in the air that Muric has. Personally, I prefer Walton going long to Muric going short (or long), IF the rest of the team adapts to that. But the wishful thinking that Walton is far superior to Muric is nonsense.

Muric Best Save Percentage of all Premier League Goalkeepers in 2024 on 08:38 - Jan 2 by C_HealyIsAPleasure | Those statistics show he had a really high save percentage in half a season for Burnley, and that it’s regressed significantly here. And then overlay that his errors have led to more goals than any other player in the league… |
This was my immediate thought. If you multiply it out it still gives him a save % of 69.2 here though which would be good enough for 3rd. It becomes irrelevant when you are becoming the root cause of a goal every 3 games though. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
