How on earth is that a pen!? 18:52 - Jan 4 with 3587 viewsHciwspi

Looks like Pedro headed the Arsenal players head!

And the reaction is a bit pathetic as well!

Chuckling at the polarity in responses here. Thought it was an obvious pen. Forget it's their heads for a second - Pedro gets the ball first, Saliba's late, and catches him. Pen all day long.

Yes, first view was rather more sceptical but it was a correct decision, just a bit unusual.

Saliba gets the ball too. Before contact. Analogous to a tackle

He was headbutted, i can't see how that was debatable tbh.

Me neither. It's a definite penalty. People saying it touched defenders head. He was still going to be moving on to the ball before getting wiped out by a head to the skull.

This is one incident is an example while people will always moan and whine at VAR because football can be subjective (especially when knowing less of specifics of the rules then the refs for example). Even refs will have different opinions. It makes me laugh when you get Shearer or football pundits saying you need ex players who know the game doing the job and then they can't agree on decisions.

It's the frustration and also the beauty of the game. It's why football is so discussed in the pubs and on forums. It's probably why we should cut officials more slack but it will never happen! Barry crime Blackpool will still call the ref a clueless f-bomb even if his mate sat next to him agrees with the call.

The defender headed the ball.

No idea what you are seeing. Obvious pen.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

You look at it properly. Pedro heads the ball, and then the defender gets a glance on it as well in the movement which ends up with the clash.

Compare it with a tackle where a striker controls the ball, then the defender gets a toe on it to deflect it, before clipping the striker in follow through. No pen.

If it was a tackle and the defender slightly got the ball after the attacker but then followed through studs up and floored the defender with real risk to serious injury, then it would be a penalty, yes

This.

Anyone who thinks it’s not a penalty just doesn’t get football.

You often demonstrate a chronic lack of understanding so I will take your view with a pinch of salt.

Than I don’t get football.

The defender gets the ball, then slightly brushes Pedros head who goes down and reacts like his head has been caved in. Not a pen for me.

This "it touches his head" excuse is a bit odd. It brushes his head/hair after Pedro heads it..

It's a bit like a slide tackle where the player has the ball, it brushes the defenders shin pad just before they also crunch their ankle.......

Its still a foul.
