What is the deal with penalty run ups these days? 15:42 - Jan 6 with 1383 views | Garv | I thought you couldn't start and then stop? Jimenez does exactly that on his second pen. Officials also need to clamp down on the defending team crowding the box/spot after it's been given to try and put off the taker. For me, any defending player should be carded if they enter the box after the penalty has been given, and the keeper should go no further forward than the 6 yard box, before obviously retreating to his line.

What is the deal with penalty run ups these days? on 15:59 - Jan 6 with 1222 views | Steve_M | Their keeper was nearer the penalty spot than the goaline, that should have been a yellow card. i thought the stutter on the first penalty was probably worse, really did seem to stop then.

They could stop as part of the run up, but not the end of it..

Yes. I looked it up as I thought the same as the OP. You can stop in the run-up but can't dummy taking it. It explains why he took such a long run up but you would imagine there must be very few top keepers that would commit at the point he is stopping.
