'head injuries' becoming endemic... 21:39 - Jan 10 with 1461 views | Zx1988 | I know they won't, but the FA have got to clamp down on the ongoing abuse of the head injury rule. Paqueta getting a nudge in the cheek and writhing around as if his nose has been broken is the latest. Good to see that the officials didn't fall for it. I can think of two ways - retrospective bans for simulation, or enforced off-pitch concussion assessments for anyone claiming a head injury in order to stop play. [Post edited 10 Jan 21:42]

I think you're right. Mandatory concussion tests would be an absolute minefield. You'd need to bring in short-term concussion subs, and that definitely wouldn't be abused if a team was chasing a game or holding on, and wanted an additional attacker/defender on the pitch.

'head injuries' becoming endemic... on 21:46 - Jan 10 with 1360 views | gainsboroughblue | It's verging on sick. Players have genuinely sustained awful head injuries on the field of play and it's a harrowing thing for fans to watch in front of them, not to mention their family in the stand or at home watching it, only for them to get up right as rain a couple of minutes later. Takes the p1ss. Any player doing this needs to be carded. Persistent offences, dock the feckers points. It'll soon stop. The game is too soft by far.

The same with tactical goalkeeper injuries to create a time out. If your keeper needs treatment, then your sub keeper must come on until the next break in play. It would soon stop (and yes, I know we do it).

The behaviour is CHEATING and should be called out as such. That said, the contemporary FA and Premier League are run primarily to maximise revenue. Fair play, consistency and transparency of refereeing and eradicating sh1thousery from what is supposed to be a sport are secondary considerations. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You wouldn't have to use a temporary substitution at all. Play on with 10 men unless it is the keeper where a sub is allowed (no team wants to put their second choice keeper in anyway). An independent concussion protocol which then determines whether a concussion sub is made or the player is allowed to return at the next break in play after it is finished. The problem is that the rule-makers seem to have little enthusiasm for stopping gamesmanship generally. Where rules have been brought in (like playing the full amount of time lost to it), referees soon stop implementing them anyway.
