We all make fun of Fosters... but we love it really 10:36 - Jan 13 with 3749 viewswkj

I was thinking about Fosters the other day, and also Carling Black Label. It feels like one of these tings we all make fun of in public, yet in private - we have a fond memory of the stuff.
Whilst taking 30 fosters on a camping trip, getting blind drunk and scaring the wife and kids might be somewhat whimsical, I am thinking about those times when we had just turned 18. Walk into Sainsburys, driving license at our hip, pick up a bumper case of the amber nectar, pay, walk out feeling like Berty big boIIocks.

So, with that in mind... do you have a dirty secret of a fond memories of the amber nectar (or Carling BL) you need to get out? Let's come together and celebrate the most "tastes like piss water" themed memories together.

No Super Bock or Cristal?

We (golf trip) were quaffing copious amounts of Super Bock in Alicante in October! Forgot about that. Not sure I’ve knowingly tried Christal.

Genuinely tried a substantial amount, and hand on heart find the majority rank.

I'll stick to Guiness

Had phases of liking Guinness. Bit like Newcastle Brown. My beerchurch is a broad one!

I went through a phase of drinking Newcastle Amber (when I could get it) but of course it's no longer brewed. Discontinued in the 1980s?

I say "brewed" but my father used to insist that Newcastle (and Federation) beers were not so much brewed as developed in chemical laboratories.

As a general rule mass produced and mass marketed beer is pigswill.
The funny thing about Fosters in that it is produced in the UK and I don't even know if Australians drink it.

I used to have a pallet of it under my bed at uni. I never particularly liked it, but it was cheap.

it doesnt have to be, in fact it never used to be brewers at the big industrial sized breweries took pride in the beer they made, but the accountants took over and now everything is done to shave the costs down so the profits go up.

and no the Aussies dont drink Fosters.

To my knowledge, the aussies mostly hate it, apart from a little corner of that country where it's local (no idea where it's supposed to be from).

I however love it and have many cans in the outhouse ready for necking. Shame on the lieabs, backbiters and vampires, as Lee Scratch might say.

its made in Melbourne, or it was when I did the brewery tour there, which is probably a bad choice, since no one in Melbourne is drinking anything other than Victoria Bitter, Carlton draft or maybe Heineken.

whilst up in Queensland they drink 4x still, Tooheys in Sydney and Coopers in Adelaide...makes you wonder who the hell is drinking the stuff, probably tourists.

its even worse when they tell you how they make it, I cant even call it brewing as more effort goes into brewing a cup of tea than they use to make beer there, its absolutely just an horrendous industrial factory process sped up so quickly, they actually have to recarbonate the beer so its still fizzy, they actually make flat beer deliberately. and then add bubbles.

I think Cooper's Sparkling Ale used to be bottle conditioned and you had to pour it carefully to avoid the sediment. It was a decent beer.
