We are attempting to be compact with absolutely no out ball, effective press or threat the other side.
Playing defence vs attack for 90 minutes is only going to end one way. We're not Everton, these players are not able to do this.

Said from start of season second half of season promoted teams get less points, so far zero and a worse goal difference. This season is all getting very Lambertesque Championship relegation style, no fight, no passion, just strolling to defeats.
Next week is the one that matters though, hopefully we can win that and kick on a bit but honestly think we will struggle. | | | |

Not as easy as just deciding to press them and get on the ball more though is it? In this game already when we've put pressure on them they've knocked it round us like we're not there and have us turned.
Not saying we couldn't have done better but more or less everyone was very pleased with how this set-up worked against Arsenal, then Chelsea and Fulham. Problem is going behind against a good team, especially one as good as Liverpool, is always going to be difficult to come back from.
Think our confidence takes a bit of a knock when we go behind which makes things worse. Small sample but before they scored we were knocking it about ok and looked positive but since then we've looked a bit lacklustre. |  |

The problem as I see it is that we’ve lost a bit of confidence and panicing a bit more - plus City and L’pool are just about the best in the business. They are going to show up any little flaws we have! |  |

Today's been more of a four than a five. And the five worked well defensively at Arsenal, then against Chelsea and Fulham. We even looked decent for the first hour against Brighton and first 30 versus Manchester City.
Whereas we looked clueless when we went with a four v Brighton, and today... | |

It's effectively a back 5 out of position or 4 with a very defensive right mid. We have no number 10.
There is no way to get out of the press and retain the ball.
Obviously Liverpool and City are very good but I think it needs tweaking.

Burns was pressing up at half way in the first half. It's the same formation as the we've played the last 2 years, but unfortunately your RW does far more defending because we have far less of the ball. | |

We were fine against Brighton until it went 1-0 and then, for some reason, fell apart. Same can be said of City. | |
