The Curious Case of Kalvin Phillips 17:04 - Feb 2 with 5072 views | bluesbrothers | Must be our highest earner by some margin, but barely gets a game and hasn't looked up to all that much when he does play. Argue the second half of that all you like but if he's not playing in games like yesterday - is it not just an utter waste of money? Appreciate we'd need someone else instead (FWIW I'm told the Downes story has legs but is deemed difficult to get done this window)

The Curious Case of Kalvin Phillips on 10:26 - Feb 3 by itfcjoe | It is and has been an utter waste really, I guess there was always a chance it would go this way after his last couple of years and I think most fans would say it was worth the risk, but it's fallen on the wrong side of things for us. |
Joe, what I don't understand is why is he being named on the bench if he's not ready to play? Are the club protecting him/his reputation? 2nd half on Saturday was crying out for him to come on, get his foot on the ball and dictate play.

The Curious Case of Kalvin Phillips on 10:30 - Feb 3 by textbackup | I’m not taking about taking a seasoned pro from Arsenal or Chelsea… The money we spent on Clarke and philogene (both who might end up being great for us I’ll add) we ‘could’ have used that £30/40m and put it to far better use, for the here and now. IMO |
Who *are* you talking about then? Because why would experienced players drop down to a newly promoted side? Unless their trajectory was heading downwards (in which case, why would we want them? Kalvin Phillips being the perfect case in point).

I've got no idea, but I really don't think it is some undying loyalty to Sam Morsy why he is in the team - it's because SM is showing more (on and off the pitch) than KP. A real shame, and it's one of those things we needed to work out for us to have a hope of staying up but it simply hasn't - if we could have gotten out of this deal we surely would have done. I spoke to someone a couple of months ago and they said it just isn't going to work out for him here, don't expect it to. Not lack of effort, or unhappiness, or fitness, or anything club could be doing but just mentally he's not right with it and it is proving to be the case

I totally agree re. Morsy. The club are bullish, they wouldn't pick Sam week in week out unless he was our best option. It does make me wonder whether that FootballInsider article published in the autumn was right re. Kalvin's fitness/mentality. He definitely doesn't look sharp. Ever since that Leicester sending-off, it's felt like the writing's been on the wall for him. He's got more money than he could've ever dreamt of, played for the most successful club, played for England at Euros etc. It must be difficult to maintain standards when you know your career's almost certainly peaked.

There were always murmurs about his attitude towards training whilst at West Ham, but a lot of people just put his poor stint at West Ham down to Moyes rather than Phillips himself Moyes reputation since then has certainly gone up in comparison to Phillips

He's never going to replicate the form from 4 years ago, he's not quite Deli Alli levels of drop off, but clearly a shadow of his former self. Fully expect him to be back at Leeds next season.

You want me, a nobody, to suggest the players we should have brought in? Don’t we have an entire scouting network with stacks of data to do that? As their full time job

Would Leeds want him in the Prem?! If he's not playing for us, why would Farke want him? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Don't you think the club would've brought in seasoned PL-ready players if A) they could afford it and B) they wanted to play for us? What about this current ownership says to you that we've settled for second best in terms of player acquisition? We've signed the best players from the pool available to us (nationally at least).

Agree, I was just merely speculating due to the fact that it's his club. But agree, Leeds probably won't want him either.
