Full story is he was due to return for Southampton but had a setback. Then pencilled in for Villa/Spurs, but medical team deemed him fit for full training last week... |  | | |

That doesn't answer the question.
He obviously was fit for a full week of training as he completed one.
It's frustrating for all concernced but blaming the medical team doesn't really help anyone. i'm sure if SS really felt he wasn't ready to play, he would have said so.... | | | |

Il agree on some of that footballers want to play, you see lots of cases where they say I'm ready and give it a go maybe that comes with not playing for weeks/months, |  | | |

If it were a league match I could just about see us taking a modest chance with a player's fitness.
I think there's absolutely no chance anyone involved, Szmodics included, would've taken any chances for an FA Cup 4th Round tie. |  |

Only player I can think of who got unused bench time to get fit was Kalvin Phillips and given how little he's played since, I can only assume it was actually just regular "bench time" (as in, not being selected). | |
