Why take the risk rushing Szmodics back? 22:18 - Feb 8 with 1723 viewsNeedhamChris

The only cloud on a positive day, but seems a bit silly to put his ankle in the firing line for this game - rather than build up more steadily towards the Villa game.

We have had enough bad luck with injuries, we can't afford any missteps from the medical team that might cost us even more depth.

Don’t think he was rushed back at all to be honest, KM often over egg’s the injury timescales to the public IMO and it sounds like SS trained all week perfectly fine and I reckon this game was always pencilled in for his return, rushing him back would’ve had him involved last week I reckon, just desperately unlucky/unfortunate coincidence.

I'm not sure he was rushed back? KM said he trained with the group in the week and that would have been at full intensity.

We have a pretty sizeable sports science team and he certainly wouldn't have started if there were any questions about his fitness.

How do you know that he was rushed back? Doesn't make any sense to play him if there were any doubts at all in a match where we made 11 changes and alternatives we could have gone with. What do you know of his medical status?

They're a medical team not soothsayers.

Maybe SS declared himself fully fit?

I get the feeling you’re just trying to score points on KMcK without being direct. Not really sure why you’ve tried to push this narrative again when you already made this claim in the “Szmodics done” thread yesterday and got quickly shut down. Bit boring.

Why do people have this bizarre opinion that he was rushed back, considering how much detail the club invests in players now. Clubs have a huge focus on player recovery and fitness tests, but all the tests and training cannot replicate a match situation.

Because some people are negative ninnies.

We won 4-1 away, you'd think this place would be a hive of joy and positivity.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

He hadn't been far off being in the squad for the Manchester City game, but they held him back, according to Kieran at the pre-Liverpool presser.

Bizarre isn't it. This is a much softer example of the wider rise, thanks to social media, of people forming opinions based on very little but having full confidence to air them like they are fact. Like an opinion, now there is a platform, is just as valid without any inside knowledge or understanding.

As Phil has said, and I mentioned on another thread, it's not even been hidden the fact that we DID NOT rush him back. Quite the opposite. If people bothered to listen to McKenna interviews etc they would know that. Perfectly fine of course not to read anything about the club or listen to the interviews but then if that's the case don't say things like we rushed him back!
