Tough calls all round. Part of me feels like Clarke deserves the chance after Coventry, but he's also a bit of a luxury player, and not sure if we can afford that against a team of Villa's quality. I think I'd probably go slightly more pragmatic:

Given the strength of Villa's attack, which has been significantly strengthened. You may well see Johnson playing on the right, and deeper, as we move back to the low block. With only two behind Delap.
With Szmodics unavailable - which is a big blow in my view. Expect it will be Omari and Enciso. How Jack Clarke and Jaden are then used I'm not sure.
Would hope Hirst gets at least 20mins, and wonder if he even starts, he was very good away at Brentford, he seems to lead the younger players, and he looks on form. But of course Delap is a great asset. |
I actually think the implicit five at the back/low block has been killing us after if worked well for a few games initially. Teams know they can just come at us again and again and that we have very limited outlets. With our squad I’m now convinced attack is the best form of defence (or at least it’s better than parking the bus). So I’d go:

I’d start Hirst up top and Delap on the right. That was his position mainly last year so used to the roll. Even as a striker for us he often drops deeper to get on the ball anyway and running of opposition defenses is one of his biggest strengths. | | | |
