Our record of reaching the 5th round really is poor 08:27 - Feb 10 with 2337 viewsSteve_M

Not just that this is the first time since 2007 we've manged to do so but that was the first time in a decade.

In the 90s, we had a really good run of making the 5th round, not so much since.

92: Lost in 5th to Liverpool
93: 6th round, lost to Arsenal
94: 5th lost to Wolves
96: 5th round, lost to Villa

Have I missed any?

Remember listening to Radio Orwell when Steve Bruce got that winner. I was nine and cried my eyes out!

Yeah I too was 9 and was at Carrow Road for it. My first away game. We had a huge corner of the ground that night. Half the Barclay and half the south stand. Must have been well over 6 thousand of us. They did a hatchet job on davray from memory and Alan Sunderland missed several too.
But the big one for me was the first leg where we absolutely murdered them and only won 1-0. Chris Woods was superb that day. Oh the memories.

There were a couple more, maybe best forgotten.

1958/59 - Ipswich 2-5 Luton

Both times beaten by the eventual runners-up.

We are of course talking about the milk cup semi final in 1985.
We took revenge in the league a few weeks later 0-2 at Carrow Road.

I was at the 83 FA Cup game where once again we murdered them and got beat 1-0.
They scored in the 6th minute and we then dominated squandering chance after chance.
Gutted.

Luton runners up, and I don’t think they have an open top bus tour today for that. A team that got to the semi that year still do though….

I only included history from the 90s in the OP as would have had to look the rest of it up (other than the years we got to the semi finals & 84/85).

So only five appearances in the sixth round and four of them were in an 11 year spell? It didn't really feel like a big deal when we brushed aside Grimsby in the 5th round in 93 (Bonctcho hat-trick and all).

In his book, Both Sides of the Border (1987), Terry Butcher lamented that, for a spell, Town only ever seemed to be drawn against one of Liverpool, Norwich or Shrewsbury in cup competitions.

Remember the Shrewsbury one really well. Think we were top of division 1 and they were top of division 2 at the time. I was gutted we lost that.

Pretty sure they’ve done for us a few times.

They did us twice in the FA Cup. We did get past them in 80/81 but it took a replay to do it. Definitely a bogey side.
