Forest v Town FA Cup 1981 14:26 - Feb 12 with 2644 views | gainsboroughblue | Anybody go? Only ever seen footage but looked a cracking game with a brilliant Town following. I went to the 1989 and 1997 cup games. Both 0-3 losses.

Forest v Town FA Cup 1981 on 14:35 - Feb 12 with 2385 views | BarcaBlue | I've posted on here before I think about the match as it was probably the best game I've attended as a Town fan. Had all the ups and downs (and up again) of a classic cup match. Packed in like sardines, the away support was superb, surged all over the place. As we were leaving news went round that Villa had lost, and after the late equaliser it was really buzzing. Got back to the car and found out Villa hadn't lost which was a bit disappointing but still a superb day out. Cracking Muhren goal in the replay.

Frankie Yallop oggy within a couple of minutes if I recall. The only bright spot being Neil Webb being in David Hill's pocket all afternoon. Unfortunately, they also had Franz Carr, Steve Hodge, Garry Parker etc. Good side that Forest one. I had high hopes for the 1997 one. They were in the Prem but a bit like we are now. We were high up in the second tier but we didn't lay a glove on them. [Post edited 12 Feb 14:41]

Forest v Town FA Cup 1981 on 14:53 - Feb 12 with 2293 views | WestStanderLaLaLa | I was there. Sat on the side rather behind the goal. I’ll always remember our 2nd. The previous week we’d scored from a free kick where Arnie ran over the ball, the ball was then played to him to cross. We tried it again and Viv Anderson who was on the end of the wall had done his homework and peeled off to close Arnie down. Jeers from the Forest fans at a free kick gone wrong. We played to Arnie anyway, cross and goal. That’s how I remember it anyway, long time ago!

A picture of the goal was hung in the Falcon main bar after.

Forest v Town FA Cup 1981 on 16:39 - Feb 12 with 2044 views | usm | Think I was there - cant remember much about it, apart from we went in some really old pub beforehand. And I got cuffed round the ear by a Forest fan as we made our way back to the car.

Forest v Town FA Cup 1981 on 16:40 - Feb 12 with 2037 views | WubbleU | Yes, I remember the emotions rather than the detail of the match. Although I do remember it as a classic. It felt like it was won at 2-0 and then felt like we were done at 3-2 down. I'm almost certain I was in one of the corner terrace pens rather than behind the goal. It was all-ticket so knew you would get in despite the huge crowd. Think I remember queuing for ages to get into North for the replay. Don't remember the replay being a classic like the 1st game more of a tough 1-0. Didn't need that replay in a busy season, maybe if we had got knocked by Villa in 3rd round, they would have ended up exhausted and we would have won the league and gone on to be champions of Europe...fine margins!

I was there and I also had never seen us lose, so at 3-2 down i knew we were ok. Went with my mate on a local coach, we got split up as there were so many Town fans in that terrace pen 1-0 replay win seemed inevitable with our home form

Forest v Town FA Cup 1981 on 17:13 - Feb 12 with 1940 views | Plymouth_Blue | The game I always used to talk about as the best I'd been to. When you look at the highlights not so sure it could of been must of been the occasion. Got knocked off the little wooden stool I used to take (I was 9) on all the goals - was being trampled on for one of them before some complete stranger spotted me and picked me up. I also used to also say Thijssens goal was the best I'd seen live as I thought he curled it in with the outside of his foot. I hadn't seen it on TV and years later saw it on some clips and found out it was a deflection and I'd been talking rubbish for years.
Forest v Town FA Cup 1981 on 17:29 - Feb 12 with 1897 views | WubbleU | Away match ticket priority in 1981 was - Get up at 5am, get to the ground at 6am, join a queue that already wrapped round the ground , queue for 5 or 6 hours and hope the bloke in front of you didn't buy the last ticket. Sometimes for a really big match you had to have a paper voucher they would give out at the turnstile at a few home games each year. Before you could join the big queue you had to find the voucher you had put somewhere safe 6 months ago.

Forest were tough to beat in those days. Many tight games between theirs and ours best ever sides. With hindsight I wish we had lost. That Man City game in the semis was very painful, we underperformed badly at Villa Park.

I was at the replay in the Churchman’s Stand and had a great view of Arnie’s goal - with his right foot I recall. Remember the match well, got to the ground early, queued for hours and managed to get in comfortably. Easier those days than now!! Also went to the semi against City, devastated; me and my mate hardly spoke on the way home.

It was Clive Thomas. I remember a still photo from the game, think it was Anderson's own goal and our favourite Welshman was in the background.

Huge following and a brilliant cup tie against a superb Forest team. The replay was incredible too although a much cagier affair. Wonderful memories.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Forest v Town FA Cup 1981 on 01:37 - Feb 13 with 1416 views | floridablue | I wasn't there, but still have a vivid memory from that day, even being thousands of miles away, working construction in Jeddah Saudi Arabia. I'd bought one of those new boom boxes and had it with me that day so I could tune into BBC sports world service coverage. My memory tells me after end of day, on site canteen dinner had finished and i was back at work on overtime with my Philipino helper when our 3rd goal, equalizer was scored on a crackly coverage (if anyone remembers those days!) and I lapped around the unit we were plastering. I'm convinced from that day, I converted him into being a Town fan. Can't remember if I found coverage of the replay but that 3 all draw has stuck in my memory for ever!
Forest v Town FA Cup 1981 on 07:33 - Feb 13 with 1321 views | Bluespeed225 | Packed in those pens, 3 days after St Etienne away, pre match a group of blokes caame through chanting 'Allez le bleus', all had different coloured Lacoste shirts on, they'd made a round trip of it plus some shopping! The replay, for me, was where the season peaked. We beat Spurs on the saturday after I think, then the injuries and fatigue started to cut in, Frans missing a load of games, Beattie in the semi, Gates shaking hands with Paul Power at 90 minutes, Power then telling him there was extra time, Gates reply, 'You can have it, i'm done'. A week later, we'd somehow beat Villa, Gates then went off after 10 (10!) minutes against Arsenal on the Saturday, it was evaporating before our eyes. Was there 8 games in 16 days or something mad? Those boys did us proud.

Only able to use one sub as well in those days. And to think the idea of some players playing a full 90 these days is almost a laughable concept.

This is why I can't get my head around Delap & Cajuste rarely, if ever, completing 95 minutes for us. Men in their physical peak in their 20s, having to always be subbed. Just don't buy it.

So many differences, between football now and the early 80s. Players playing through injuries, injections before the match and at half time to keep them going, the option to make substitutions, better player data and there's certainly more differences that make the two eras almost incomparable.

I'm not talking the 80s. I'm talking about any era, as close as 2010s. Almost seems a fad to have 5 "finishers" come off the bench in every game. Delap & Cajuste should be playing 95 minutes more often than not.
