look at the state of the pitch Brazil is half the man is now Didnt we play nice football next game was a toughy away at St Etienne, we'll do well to a result there!!
Used to play the conditions in those days, nothing like the soft lads of today face. For February that pitch was about average, huge advantage we had was that PR always held up very well. No way was that a foul for the disallowed Cov goasl, even today it would be good. Foul on Mariner, straight red now. Nice little ground Highfield Road. Better than the non-entity they hire off that nice Sports Direct geezer.

I was there for that memorable game, I think it may have been the first time Grey Green ran a coach which went on to be a regular thing. There was a fine rendition, albeit from an open terrace of ‘We Shall Overcome’, only heard this a few times at PR and away but always thought it had great potential to be rousing, but maybe it was deemed to be taking away the deeper meaning, or be disrespectful to, the anthem from the US civil rights movement. I still think Pete Seeger would approve it getting an airing.

Missed that game as I was going to St Etienne , which to this date is the best performance I have seen from a Town team and I’ve seen a few since 68 to present day , without doubt a top European team that season …..TRWTD .

Reference to the fans singing " We shall overcome " I remember there was a big fella with dark curly hair who led the fans into that song.

I was at that game because jn those days ì lived in Coventry and my wife actually worked for City. She used to get 2 free season tickets which- despite my best efforts- has meant my son has grown up a Coventry supporter One thing I noticed from that video which ì wish we could go back to- no wrestling in the penalty area from corners!

I’m pretty sure I went to that one and that my sister played in a vaguely official fans netball game against Coventry fans at a sports centre connected with CCFC beforehand (I think it was called the Sky Blue Connexion [sic]).

I did too! Coventry’s pitch was better than many at that time of year?
The Mariner challenge? A red all day now. I wasn’t at the game, but I do remember it, not least for McCall’s hit and oddly Osman’s header.
Went to watch us at Highfield Rd a fair amount in the 70s and 80s but missed that and the following season’s which I think finished 4-2 to us. I don’t know why, but summer or winter that ground was always freezing cold. A cup of Bovril at HT was a must if you could get one.
Nice ground, fond memories.

The next season 81-82 was organised at really short notice which would probably explain why several Town fans missed it. Can't quite remember the details but there was bad weather everywhere and both us and Coventry were postponed a couple of days before the scheduled fixtures. Coventry's pitch was playable, so our game was rearranged at less than 48 hours notice, maybe even the Friday. The programme was a single sheet of paper due to the short notice; it became one of Towns rarer match programmes, mainly because most were turned into paper aeroplanes. Different era of just turning up and paying at the gate, wouldn't happen now with all the stewarding and ticketing etc.
