The investigation will be interesting for sure, quite a lot of things can go wrong with big floating objects ion poor visibility. Anyone remember the European Gateway sitting partially underwater off Felixstowe in the early 80s?*
A deliberate ramming is unlikely, "some people" have been jamming and spoofing GPS in the Baltic which will definitely cause collisions at some stage but seems unlikely this far out.

A few years later another Townsend roro ship, the Herald of Free Enterprise, capsized shortly after leaving Zeebrugge and somewhere close to 200 people died.
I was working for Stena in Felixstowe at the time and could have free passage to Denmark or Sweden. I arranged to take my son, then aged about 5, to Denmark to visit Legoland and other attractions but when he knew that we'd be travelling on such a ship he didn't want to go. He'd seen the news and was scared of a similar outcome. If we had travelled he would've been scared for the whole 24hr crossing to Esbjerg and the same coming back. |  |

Similar to the MOT then? You failed this go fix it within X time. I presume if something vital/serious failed a check the Ship would not be allowed leave port?
Just thought I'd share what I read, as you say sounds like the media putting spin on the story to keep the clicks coming. No doubt the actual truth is what is being discussed with the skipper. |
