You have to wonder what drugs the recruitment were on when they chased him for two windows then paid £20m for him or whatever it was or will be.

Villa and the agent have played a blinder as that is daylight robbery.

If he has potential, he is hiding it well before that nonsense is posted.

Our January window was the worst we had under Ashton, paying that for Philogene but also bringing in Enciso and Godfrey has turned out to be a total turd.

Again we looked far better with our much maligned “League One” players in Burgess, Broadhead and Hirst on.

In both windows our recruitment was very poor.

Where are they maligned?? Think they are much lauded by the majority of the fan base certainly compared to the ££££ signings

We wamt him to attack, not defend. Maybe that's why he is confused, he is trying to do something he can't do.

Duck knows.

That's the issue isn't it? A huge part of that RW role is the defensive work. Saying "we want him to attack not defend is like saying you've not watched us for the last 2 or 3 years?

When I see what J clarke seems to becoming. I think philogene will get there.

There were times before the sub where philogene lost the ball so easy. When clarke came on he did the same runs but the way he used his body to shield the ball as he did so was massively different to earlier in the season.

Clarke and Philogene are both developing in the way KMc wants them to play and you can clearly see that in both of them if you know what you're looking for. Philogene's defensive side is developing particularly well. As mentioned above, he's a bit like Hutch when he first came here (although he's more advanced, but in a MUCH tougher environment.)

The question isn't over whether these are quality players or not - they both are, and will be excellent next season and beyond - it's more about the overall squad constitution and medium term strategy. The gamble of developing these types of player probably hasn't worked in terms of this season, but it leaves us in a great place to go again.

Not been a fan of Jaden so far.

However the amount of times in the first half he was in space and calling for the ball and Woolfenden (who was shockingly bad but seems to get a free pass because he's one of our own) didn't pass to him was infuriating, it was like he was the invisible man.

I’m still exactly where I was previously on him- I hold out hope though that something will click in the Championship.

Jaden Philogene yesterday- by Libero 23 Feb 10:14
I found his performance to be a very frustrating watch.
Pulling the ball out of the air, just to pass it to the invisible man, slowing the game down in situations where he should be attacking the full back, taking shots from silly positions and generally not playing with the kind of intensity I expect of a Kieran McKenna player.

What *really* annoyed me though is that once the game was gone, he started to play and actually attack his full back directly, put in crosses, link up with Hutchinson.

Everyone’s entitled to a bad game and it’s still very early days for Jaden at the club, but I do have a few concerns based over what I’ve seen thus far.

Here’s hoping it’s just part of the settling in period.

2nd highest spenders in the Premier League and going down without a fight.
Would like to be proved right but Philogene is not going to be a crowd favourite

You have to take a good look at what Brentford, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Forest have bought for much less money

The best i can say is that at least we don't need to worry about losing our wide players to prem teams because none are ultimately good enough

They've spent a lot more than us over the time they have been in the Premiership.

Judging it on this seasons spending alone is a seriously flawed argument.

13th highest spenders in all of Europe, but it’s a false equivalence- due to two rapid promotions and DECADES of stagnation we required the major investment just even potentially compete.

While everyone bemoans the transfer business I look at a number of those signed and think about what a great player they’ll be for Ipswich Town over the next 2-3 years- I’m not quite there about Philogene yet, but this trotting out of how much we’ve spent as a way to claim we’ve underachieved has to stop.

2nd highest spenders in the last season and still nowhere enough to put us in the top 19 for squad value.

we need to spend much, much more to close the gap, but ffp doesn't allow us to, we'll need more promotions and more windows of high spending to catch up
