History will teach us nothing 23:20 - Mar 15 with 1177 views | cbower | We just don't seem to have learned much as the season has progressed. I know for tge last two seasons Davis has been bombing forward, but how many times this season against top opposition have we conceded goals with Leif 10, 15 or 20 yards behind tge scorer struggling to get back? In addition, whilst Delap has scored some belters, why he is continually allowed to run into blind alleys instead of being instructed to bring others into play more often? When will we realise that George Hirst should be getting 30 minutes, not 15 or less? Or maybe that Delap could have even more success playing off Hirst as a 10, giving us some more physicality in those forward areas not provided by Hutch, Clarke, Enciso or Philogene? In too many games we are overrun in midfield by more athletic players with greater physicality but we have continued to only ever play two in there, rarely if ever seeking to counteract opposition strengths in tge centre of the park. Finally, when are our defenders going to realise that backing off and allowing attackers to enter the 18 yard box is not a good ploy as it generally ends badly? These are the things that have irked me most since the turn of the year. Like I've said, it feels like history has taught us nothing.

We’ve been incredibly naive with our tactics most of the season, we’ve played Burnleyball and expected different results. We don’t have the players to achieve that, had we adopted a more combative and direct approach for just a season to stay up we might have made a go of it, but we decided to play pretty and it’s cost us points. The thing I’m worried about is character. Last years team obviously had it in spades. I’m yet to be convinced this team has it.

History will teach us nothing on 05:00 - Mar 16 with 779 views | ITFCSG | Remember the 2 Leeds games last season? Davis was similarly ripped apart there by their attackers and at that time I was fearful of what PL forwards could do to us. Lo and behold we are facing teams even batter than last season's Leeds every week now and look at the result. Why isn't Townsend being used more often is also baffling, especially when Davis is ineffective in going forward as well in the PL.

Being in well in games, conceding then quickly conceding one or sometimes two more has happened too many times. West Ham away, City home and away, Everton home, Brentford away, Spurs home, Brighton home, United away, yesterday and although Newcastle scored in the first minute at Portman Road, I'll throw that one in there too. You're spot on Illy, incredibly naive game management. I look back to Fulham away too with Leif and Clarke bombing on at 2-1 up in stoppage time. Sliding doors naivety. [Post edited 16 Mar 9:12]

History will teach us nothing on 09:30 - Mar 16 with 503 views | DublinBlue84 | Been saying this about Davis since the start of the season. Great going forward and extremely effective at Championship Level, but not only is he he defensively not up to Premier League level, a team like us cannot afford to push him up as it leaves us hugely exposed. In a more defensively tight team you might be able to get away with it, but he's not what we need right now in a left back at this level. But I'm sure that there are still some blinkered fans who claim he will be playing for England, despite the fact he's a poor defender at this level.

Davis has not even been effective going forward this season for the most part so we are not gaining anything in a risk/reward fashion. Add to this that every time Townsend has pulled on the shirt he has looked a much more solid defender than Leif and it is really puzzing why KM continues to deploy Davis in the manner that he does. Regarding Delap, it would be great to start both him and Hirst but our failure to add another 9 in either window has meant that this is now not an option. It would be great to try Delap in the central or right 10 position, but we can't. For me we should have invested in an Ellis Simms type who could have come on for Hirst for the last 30 mins or so and would also have been Champ ready for next season in the event of relegation.
