Phillips on the bbc gossip page on 10:09 - Mar 18 by Churchman | As a matter of interest, why do you think Leeds have a far better starting point re PL competitiveness? Do you mean facilities, infrastructure, youth system? Team wise they have been out of it for two seasons and look ordinary and poorer, player wise, than last year. |
In all aspects including team. When we got promoted we had three CM's contracted: Morsy (32) Luongo (31) Taylor (26) They will have: Ampadeu (24) (Signed for 8M) Tanaka (26) (Signed for 3M) Gruev (24) (Signed for 6.5M) I know the above does not equate to performance, although to finish 3rd and in the top 3 again suggests performances are pretty good. They're starting with younger ascending players who cost more, with more pedigree and I'd argue that is a better starting point.

Was telling me a lot of his issues are his own mindset and confidence. By all account when Bielsa was there he had a few issues before KP became the KP we knew him to become but seemingly after leaving Bielsa’s side he’s never really recreated that form …and doesn’t look like doing so either

They are playing in the Championship, not the PL. i know Leeds is a big name, big club and some people are a little star struck by that but that Leeds team has poorer players than last season - no Gray who was taken to the cleaners by Delap for half a game here or Somerville who makes the subs bench, Sinisterra, Rutter and others - £150m of players. Don’t forget those players got Leeds relegated in the first place. Leicester’s Dewsbury turf-roller was about the best player in the Championship, worth far more than the Leeds trio put together and barely makes the bench. Downes? Another top Championship player but where’s he? I think Leeds are actually better balanced but pretty good top three performances in the Championship count for nothing in the PL. Yes, they’ve paid money for their midfield and it might tear the PL apart, but it’s going to have to improve about 200% to do that, unless the Premier League clubs are star struck by big club Leeds and don’t turn up. They might be ascending, they might have peaked. Who knows? But should Leeds not blow up, they’ll have to replace an awful lot of their team or go straight back down again. That’s the difference between Championship and Premier League. I’ve not seen a huge amount, but none of the top three have impressed me. They’re worse than last years top four. Strangely, Sunderland who are off the autos pace have looked good when I’ve seen them.

I don't disagree with anything you've said, all sensible points. It might not count for anything but what we do know is to play CM in the PL, you've got to be an athlete, you've got to be technically strong and you've got to have legs. On those grounds, the profile of their midfield three means they are likely starting in a better position then us re CM's and therefore I doubt they will be looking for a Kalvin Phillips type who has shown he's not much better then the 3 we had going into the year.

Phillips on the bbc gossip page on 15:03 - Mar 18 by Bellevue_Blue | They've arguably got the best, if not one of the best LB's in the Championship? You'd have two players who have shown a similar level and you'd be paying 20+ million for the privilege. I can think of a few landing spots for Leif (Everton, West Ham, Burnley if they went up) but Leeds wouldn't make much sense for either party IMO. |
I think we will keep Leif Davis, it has been shown he is not good enough for the premier league yet. [Post edited 19 Mar 0:04]

Phillips on the bbc gossip page on 11:34 - Mar 18 by bournemouthblue | As a roll of the dice as a squad player you could see it happening I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted Leif Davis back either |
Could we loan Davis, Delap etc to a Burnley , Leeds, Everton, wet spam etc?? Would de risk recruitment for a promoted team, might keep Player happy being in prem, the we have them ready when we go back up. I am sure Southampton did something like that with a player? Obviously a challenging option to get over the line with three stakeholders needing to be happy with the idea.

Phillips on the bbc gossip page on 07:31 - Mar 18 by Swansea_Blue | That’s as good a guess as anyone’s. So obvious that even ‘Footballer Insider’ have made the connection lol. I think it’d be a good move for him. He’s needs to get out of City permanently, as they kill careers of players like him who drop out of their first team squad. |
City are like Chelsea in that regard, Danny Drinkwater springs to mind. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I’ve actually been very vocal in my criticism of our midfield so I’m not disagreeing that Leeds might offer more, it’d actually be hard to offer less. My point is that it probably won’t be enough. And no, i agree - I cannot see them taking Phillips. I’m not sure what the future holds for him at the moment. Shame really because you see glimpses of what a terrific player he was just a few years ago.
