I've missed the sign over A140 and it seems a while since some knobber knocked it over, but it is coming back

Great news.

I know it was listed, but I'd pretty much resigned myself to it ending up as one of those things that it was hoped would be forgotten about in the fullness of time.

I was hoping the OP was referring to the pub.

Last I went in there was about 5 years ago, it was run by Eastern Europeans. I had dumplings that were so heavy that I struggled to get back into my car seat.

I used to drive by there frequently and often they would have some Eastern European party that was rocking and the car park and pub would be jammed.

I hardly went in there but I was saddened when it closed.

Rum old parties weren’t they? Didn’t it close because one of said Lithuanians died in a fight at one?

I've missed my '20 minutes till home' marker for a while. Glad to know it will be coming back.

I wasn't aware of that.

The few times I went in there I thought it was fun and I didn't feel any tension.

That said, I guess it might have got a bit tribal now and then.

I often wonder what the locals thought. In fact, when you think about it, the whole thing was quite bizarre.

In November 85' I went to the Backstreet Northern soul night at Carrow Road, and despite everything that had gone on a few months before, we were always greeted ok! Footy free zone! Anyway, we were still young, no car drivers in the gang yet, so we went up on the scooters. Cracking nights they had there, we danced, sweated, danced and sweated. On the ride home, about 2am, it got cold, real cold, frost coming, the sweat froze, i couldn't pull in the clutch properly. The Magpie was the saviour, pulled in( Closed obviously), we got round the back, hunkered down under a tarp' till the feeling had come back! Always think of that when ever i goe past nowadays!

Crazy.

I had a similar thing after a Norwich game. Can't remember the year or who I ended up with (never seen him before or since) but we left Bethel St police station at the same time and tried to get back with no money. We never made it as far as the Magpie but I remember as clear as day that we got to The Yaxley Bull by walking and hitching and thought we would hide in their log barn. It was fecking freezing and my new comerade said he would phone his sister to pick us up. Don't ask me why he didn't phone her a few hours previous, I will never know!

From memory I got to the snooker hall about midday.

And here's the thing, I know things are difficult for kids these days***** but they never had the sh1t we had to go through did they.
