Any hints for new driver insurance? 14:39 - Mar 29 with 1574 views | redrickstuhaart | Dream insurers that don't show up on comparison sites etc? Done all the usual stuff of adding experienced extra drivers. Black box makes all of £50 difference apparently. £2800 for a 20 year old 1.1 Peugeot... And yes I know its about the damage that can be done, rather than the value of the vehicle. It is still genuinely extortionate. [Post edited 29 Mar 14:41]

Any hints for new driver insurance? on 15:14 - Mar 29 with 1505 views | Pendejo | It really is pot luck isn't it. If you are lucky enough to run a business with substantial insurance thru a broker, you could use that as leverage for future renewals.... But that advice is from my experience as an insurance underwriter a millennium ago. Probably different now. Black box made a huge difference when my youngest got her first car insurance (£3,300 v £3,800) Wonder why there are so many uninsured drivers...* *Same offspring recently did a ride along with Met Police, she said ANPR kicked off about uninsured cars, many times, that it was ignored as they wouldn't be able to deal with the "real problems" which included (on that shift); fraud & theft report, unexplained death

2800 it is. Painful when you are putting a house deposit together.

Any hints for new driver insurance? on 18:27 - Mar 29 with 1359 views | EuanTown | Part of your problem is the numerous rating factors. Just because the 1.1peugeot is old. It is the group rating of the vehicle that is a major factor. Also don't forget your post code, occupation. Annual mileage of all drivers. Have you googled young/ new driver insurance as this may bring up some companies you may not have heard of. Also try getting quotes 20-30 days ahead, like for renewals as they may come up cheaper. I appreciate that when they pass their test they want cover straight away. But playing the same trick for NB as you do for renewals will help [Post edited 29 Mar 18:32]

He deliberately bought the peugeot having looked into what ought to give the lowest premiums. Passed today, and unable to do it in advance because they wont quote you until you have a full licence! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Too late now BUT for others in a similar position. Youngest bought a special learners insurance to drive my car whilst learning, it was relatively cheap (@£500) and gave her a discount on her first proper insurance

I've a similar predicament with Junior F close to taking her test. Ive heard 3rd hand that if a newly qualified driver is prepared to wait a month or so for insurance, then you might be able to save up to a 3rd of the cost of the astronomical premium. Good luck persuading your boy to do that! To be honest, Ive found myself wishing that Junior might fail her test, then I remind myself of the extortionate cost of each lesson. F*ked either way!

They quoted me 4.5k for a 19 yo boy in a peugeot 308 I laughed heartily for about 2 mins and said no. They also tried to rip me off for a change that they made to my own policy.

Yes, we've got learner driver insurance, about £350 if I remember correctly (and cheaper than my insurance with 20 years ncd!) However, some of the prices I've heard for if/when she passes her test have put the fear of god into me. How much did your youngest pay when she passed? [Post edited 29 Mar 20:18]

My son has taken that approach to an extreme. Passed his test before going to Uni but not driven for 5 years since. He’s just taken out his first insurance and managed to get it for £500 through Hastings. That’s for a 7 year old Fiesta.

Blimey, Junior passed two and a half years ago, £1,500. Although it hasn't gone down much since.

Really? That's so poor. They emailed me 3-4 times in the last month to remind me my policy was expiring and they're not offering any renewals/new policies. Maybe they're honouring policy holders til the end of their contract etc.

At the time, some of his mates were getting quotes on polo's and seat ibiza around the £2k mark. We kept below 1000cc on advice. Our 17 year old is inheriting the C1 off his brother, I guess we'll see how much the insurance has changed in a month or so. Good luck.
