Manchester City large point deduction 23:46 - Mar 29 with 5198 viewsMVBlue

130 charges, 40-60 point deduction. Could it happen? What then for Leicester or Ipswich?

There is still hope...

I think that whatever penalty is applied (assuming they are found guilty), they will challenge through every legal process available and so it won't come into effect for considerable time. That is, unless it is such a lenient penalty as to have no real impact.

Almost feels like a perfect storm for them to get a hefty (drop in the ocean to them) fine and a big-but-non-relegation-threatening points deduction (20-30points).

With the season they’ve had it doesn’t impact them in any way. They stay up, they're not stripped of a title, they’re ‘punished’ and life goes on for everyone involved in the cash cow.

They've already set a precedence for punishment though with everything from a 2 point to a 10 point deduction for a single rule break. If each rule break was a small as it got and warranted 2 points, they would be looking at 200+ point deduction as well as a fine.

If found guilty and they got 20/30 points, Forest/ Everton ect would be up in arms. It would be massively inconsistent with what has gone before.

The Premier League wont want to pander to them either. This is a club that has dragged them through litigation at every possible opportunity. Very recently the Premier League warned its clubs that it spent more than £45million on legal bills last season, due to various disputes over its financial regulations and you can assume most of that is City based.

Only if it is the same rules that are broken which they are not.

It is being seen as potentially very serious but not because it is the same offence on a much bigger scale but rather different very serious offences.

It's the same Financial Fair Play rules that all clubs are responsible for upholding.

Everton and Forest broke them by transparently posting losses over and above the permitted amount.

The Premier League argues that City broke those same rules but covered up losses through inaccurate accounting and by paying salaried employees more than was disclosed.

If found guilty, you’d have thought they would work backwards to determine the extent of the losses if that financial doping did not occur and then issue punishments accordingly.

Otherwise any punishment is purely speculative and Man City will drag that through the courts. If they can link the rule breaks back then they should be able to enforce a hefty punishment.

There is a one stage appeals process and then no further options (no CAS for example)

I would expect any reduction to be reduced in that appeal. How they do that before the end of the season is questionable.

I have a feeling they’ll be relegated with us as Leicester stumble above the line and then we’re f@cked next season having them in the championship. Cheery Sunday evening optimism.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

Everybody's assuming it's all of the charges or nothing.

Perfectly easy for them to say City argued their case against/showed there's not enough evidence for some of the charges and be found guilty of others.

Just enough guilty charges to make a point. The points deductions perfectly add up against Forest/Everton's previous punishments so there's no argument from them, and City just avoid the drop, keeping those worldwide assets like Haaland on the PL's books for marketing purposes in future.

10-20 guilty charges at a couple of points punishment per charge = everybody's happy, except us and Leicester, who they don't care about anyway.
