The big question I’ve never had an answer to is how can the Galloway stewards smell a temperature

Do they still have a collection for the driver?

I remember going in them a few times when I was about 12. There was an old gal called Irene on there and a chap called Mick that used to kind of run them and sit at the front. I assume they didn’t get to see us make it back to the promised land but maybe they did and I just offended a longstanding twtd member!

Irene Davey died during last season around Jan/Feb time so came very close to seeing us make the Prem.

Don't recall a Mick though I suspect I'd remember him if I saw a picture.

Didn’t tonight. No one carries cash anymore I suppose!

Bless Mick, he was the steward on coach 1 for many years, not seen him about for a while now and sadly assume he’s not with us anymore.

Oh wow! She came close then! I’ve got a decent enough photographic memory from the late nineties and still remember the faces on those trips! In fact my brother and I stopped at Gratham services this Christmas when I was back as we were driving up north and I had flashbacks from back then.

Mick always had a flat cap on and was a lovely old bloke. Stood outside the pay as you go turnstiles and gave me free ticket before Preston once because he had a spare from the club. Fifteen quid was a lot of money in year 8!

My mates and I barely missed an away game from 1998 onwards, including night games, much to the annoyance of my teachers!

Then from around 2000 onwards we discovered beer and could still get away with child fares on the train.

They allowed it earlier in the season too.

There are stewards! Posh.

He sadly went into a home during covid times. I do not know if he's still with us. He had stopped going to away games but was still going to portman road before he went into the home

We must be about the same age. I sat my gcses in 2000. I was told by my deputy head teacher that I was "ruining my chance of a future as prioritising football was a sure fire way to fail every exam" (something along those lines) didn't miss a game for 4 seasons home and away.

Came out with all A and B's

Spent a lot of time revising on a coach

I met him at an ITFC Foundation Senior Blues Cafe about a year ago, and he was on good form for his advanced years.

I'm annoyed I can't place/remember him.

I did the coach travel thing between circa 88 and 91/2 with the very odd journey up till about 2005 if trains/cars were tricky to use.

Not sure that is true, is about 50/50 in my experience and even if it is true the driver will have a Sum Up or similar payment thingy so you could give him a drink if you wanted to but you choose not to.

When he used to do the collection for the driver he would say "yup, yup, well done" wore a dark blue donkey jackat

That does ring a bell now you mention it but hazy on his personal appearance still.

I guess I need to remember I'm thinking of someone and adding on 30 plus years of ageing.

I remember Mick. Used to be an essential part of any away trip on the coaches to hope he was the steward. Glad to see he was doing well when he was last seen and hopefully he still is.
I think the Irene being mentioned was a different one to Irene Davey but I guess she he might have been doing it too at some stage. I remember seeing one of the ladies who used to do it at a couple of away games in the league one promotion season so some are still about.
Don’t get to do many aways these days but probably did 50% or more from late 1980’s to mid 2000’s and a handful each season since until this.
I often wonder just how many hours I spent on those travel club coaches

I am not convinced that is the same Irene either!
