Delap reported 40m clause... 08:16 - Apr 6 with 7445 views | ITFCBlues | If that is the case, that'd be hugely disappointing. We'd have sold ourselves at least 10m short. Hopefully that's not the case with MA comments suggesting we're well protected although I'd say that a sale of 40m hasn't protected us well at all!

Delap reported 40m clause... on 17:52 - Apr 7 by Herbivore | Also, if someone had said when we signed him that he had a £40m release clause you could count on one hand the number of people who thought he'd realistically command more than that 9 months later. Hindsight bias is real. |
I watched him lumbering around against Fortuna last summer and thought ‘god we will need better than that’. If you’d told me he’d achieve what he has and command the sort of fee being banded about, I’d have called for the men in white coats to take you away to somewhere quiet and padded. For me, even if what is being guessed at is true, it cannot be described as a bad bit of business, given what we knew in the summer of 2024. You are right. The gift of hindsight is a wonderful thing; a 100% success rate!

Delap reported 40m clause... on 14:01 - Apr 6 by Trequartista | I don't think the comparison to the price paid is the most significant measurement. Would selling Davis for £5m be a good deal? That said, I don't think we can have any complaint if the £40m clause exists. It was obviously insisted on by Manchester City or Delap himself so the alternative was to walk away from the deal. If it is a relegation release clause, that would more than likely be put in by the player. Man City have a buy back clause, so wouldn’t need a relegation one. Lots of rumours and even Sky reporting on an alleged relegation clause, so someone with knowledge is leaking the details. Maybe Delaps agent?
Delap reported 40m clause... on 11:48 - Apr 8 with 248 views | PioneerBlue | 4 pages and counting. Response to OP No we did not sell ourselves short. He was an unknown striker from a leading academy that is all. If we swap 20m for ~40m in one season whilst relegated he will be more or less the costliest player to leave the champ. 100% return in 12 months, that’s a steal given it will probably mitigate and resolve any significant risk of not returning to the PL in next 2 years and in one sale provide headroom for further acquisitions.
