£30 million is the starting point , if several clubs want him they can bid upwards off release clause figure , if only one club wants him it has to be only the £30 million only .

....from any club.

Obviously there will be multiple clubs, but they will then just negotiate directly with the player and he will get the benefit of multiple offers.

100% this.

Delap and his agent will be the only ones benefitting from competition for his signature.

Not so sure that is correct ……we will see , always thought if one club offers 30 million, then another wants him for 40 million then we sell to the higher bidder , if accepted they then negotiate with the player for salary etc , if we sold to the lower bidder then we can say no to that sale surely.

....that situation is called "a transfer".

Incorrect. We HAVE to accept any bids at £30m if the reports are accurate

No one will bid more

Impossible to say this with certainty without knowing the full details of the contract. The reports relate to ONE possible clause, that even if it exists, may have several interdependencies.

True. I’m just going off the guardian report stating a £30m relegation release clause.

There seems to be some misconceptions on here that there could still be a bidding war even if this was the case.

If the £30m RRC is true, the only bidding war will be wages, sign on and agents fees.

Yes there’s no way any club will offer more than necessary for us to accept the offer. People are delusional.

If its a release clause, he gets to choose, and may go to the club which offers him the most. No need for them to offer more than 30

No chance.

Delap and his agent are in the driving seat. Ashton is purely a passenger when it comes to Delap this summer.

No club will be paying over the release clause.
