Delap relegation release clause 18:17 - Apr 11 with 1197 views | ITFCMonk | Am I right in thinking this clause is in his own contract instead of part of the actual transfer? Just wondering whether we could have another clause in there which Delap himself could sign some form of waiver to remove it? Clutching at straws I know.

And I'd imagine that the release clause as an ITFC player would be part of his personal terms, because once he has signed for us, Man City have already set their clauses, so his personal terms would have nothing to do with them, just ITFC and Liam.

Delap relegation release clause on 19:17 - Apr 11 with 1023 views | Guthrum | In reality, the player can always refuse to move, especially if the club does not want him to go. Release clauses only give suitors the right to go and talk to their target, not force him to say yes.

Precisely, which is why I ask what would be the point in Delap having the clause removed. If it was triggered, he just needs to say he’s not interested.

This. I think it’s unlikely he stays, but the only way he does IMO is if we offer him an improved contract. It’s of course counterintuitive for a relegated club, but would maybe be the only possible way to keep him, and we can offer a regular start that he may not get elsewhere. [Post edited 11 Apr 21:31]

Delap relegation release clause on 20:22 - Apr 11 with 876 views | J2BLUE | If Man City have a clause, even if they don't want to use it, you have to think they are covered for the length of his initial deal even if he signs a new deal or there would be all sorts of shady dealings.

That’s the contract between the clubs, not the one between Delap and us. There’s nothing stopping us agreeing a new contract with Delap, and yes - it wouldn’t change anything in the contract between the clubs.

I’m normally quite critical of young footballers seeking moves too soon when they’re probably better of playing more games in the league below. However in this instance I think it would be an absolute waste of talent if he were to spend next season in the championship. He’s every bit a premier league footballer and should be eyeing up an England call up next year.
