Even if there was previous, It’s never justifiable to retaliate like that - there is a clear double movement there. He effectively stamps on his leg, and is clearly deliberate. He could have finished a career with that assault (I refuse to call it a tackle).

There's a lot of talk of Madrid bias in refereeing and in the Spanish FA. Tabas who is La Liga president is a open supporter of Real Madrid. I'm not keen on conspiracy theories coming out of Catalonia, especially since Barça have had dodgy looking dealings with the head of refereeing. But it is remarkable that Madrid have been awarded 12 penalties this season, that's one less than the first and third teams in La Liga combined.
