Burnley and Leeds in for George Hirst.... 12:08 - Apr 23 with 4176 viewsitfcjoe

....and Fulham and Brentford like McKenna

Sounds like most likely thing from their reporting is Hirst signs a new contract here.

With Delap going for £30m, strikers so hard to get hold off and George Hirst being excellent it would take silly money to get him away from here anyway

Do you think we could effectively replace Hirst with £15M? If not, why would we accept that as a fee? At 26 I would want a lot of clauses that could easily be hit as add-ons and a decent sell-on fee. I think we paid more than that for Delap with no Premier League experience at all didn't we?

Jay Stansfield was a target for us as a similar style centre forward, and Birmingham paid £15m for him to play in League 1 this season.
Sure he has done well at that level, as you'd expect - although taking penalties out of it, Alfie May has had a better goals return for them - but certainly no more impressive than Hirst's post January period in L1 for us.
Stansfield is younger, but Hirst is still only 26, and given that a lot of his quality is in hos intelligence, strength & hold up play, he should be a good performer for another 10 years, at Championship/PL level, barring any serious injury.

Not saying I want Hirst to go as I think he will be our main man up top next season. However, given his injury records from the last two seasons if a huge offer came in, we should seriously consider it. BUT we simply must have replacements lined up first as we will 100% end up paying OTT.

£15M Is the minimum we should even consider. Delap was £15M plus addons. Some were talking about taking £5M for Hirst, which crazy. Ideally Hirst goes nowhere this year, we get in another no. 9 to develop alongside Hirst, get Hirst on a 4 year contract and then maybe consider letting him go in a couple of years.

Football Insider is very clickbaity, so not sure any of it should be taken with too much credence. I'm sure GH's agents would love him to be offered new terms.

Did you just call FI clickbaity and then report exactly the same thing? 😂

It'd take a pretty ridiculous offer for us to even think about letting him go I imagine, and I can't see Leeds or Burnley wanting to pay an inflated fee for someone with his injury record over the last 2 seasons. If we can keep him fit, he's a top level Championship striker and he's shown he isn't out of his depth at a level up. We should be looking to replace Delap with someone who can compete with Hirst, I'd rather not have to replace Hirst as well as Delap.

It really depends if Hirst wants to spend next season in the PL as backup (earning £50k) or if he’s happy as (possibly) main striker in the Champ (earning £30k).

If he wants out then there’s not much point keeping him. Hopefully he will stay.
