A bad weekend all round for the academy. I know the U18 team were weakened by players moving up to U21’s but the academy is our weakest link.

My lads team do it that way. They're under 11s. When they hit "competitive" fixtures, then they're encouraged to be a bit more pragmatic, but as a philosophy, I'm not against passing out from the back. But by u18s, they really ought to be at the pragmatism phase.

It does nothing for them, you need to teach them to problem solve, to do the right things, to be physically ready. It will become more noticeable over the next couple of years as Chelsea's academy has started going down this route as Clearlake want to break everything that works and they stop producing so many players. It's a bit reductive, but teams need to learn how to win first and foremost - not by just picking players with lower ceilings and as the be all and end all - but within the structure of development

U18's v SheffW on 12:54 - Apr 24 with 963 views | EuanTown | That's not really playing it out from the back that is the old don't play the ball across your box. We all learnt that years ago. In this instance it does start there, but could have been from an opposition forward play at anytime during the game. Sadly we see this even at prem level, players foolishly hitting balls across their own box and into trouble. Or even heading a ball into a danger area.
U18's v SheffW on 13:58 - Apr 24 with 856 views | Illinoisblue | Needs the Benny Hill music playing. My word. Looks like a lot of our players are robots and intent on doing what they’re told as opposed to what’s right.

U18's v SheffW on 20:08 - Apr 24 with 551 views | Rocky | As we all know from our own schoolboy days, defenders are not often the best footballers. As you go through the age brackets, the defenders are sturdy and solid - but often lack athleticism. Playing out from the back is here to stay, but requires more than just suicidal passes to the nearest player. Hopefully, we will produce young players who will be comfortable in possession. At the moment, it is the weakest part of our club.
U18's v SheffW on 20:24 - Apr 24 with 520 views | bluebudgie | No wonder we are signing youngsters from other clubs! Ipswich youths used to be regular winners of the South Eastern League and two-time winners of the FA Youth Cup. What a shame. Where has it gone wrong? Let's hope Cat One status helps the youth system.
