I have been watching a few of his old films recently and love the gritty hard man stuff like Nil By Mouth and Ladybird Ladybird. Last night I watched The War Zone, and bloody hell, that was powerful, yet difficult watching. I actually felt quite sick watching some of the scenes, so I can only assume it was psychologically tough for RW and the other actors to film.

Kingsley provides a great performance in Sexy Beast and is rightly lauded, but for me the best part is Ian McShane playing Teddy Bass. He nails a truely psychopathic crime boss perfectly. [Post edited 25 Apr 3:25]

Main memory of him for me is the bodyless bettinghead who halfway through a Barnsley vs Town match chipped in with 'Vaz Te to score next, lump on'. Hah, we turned the match around in the second half, Ray. It may not have helped that I was watching the match in a pub just a few miles from his house and surrounded by Spurs and Millwall supporters.
However, his turn in the Ian Dury biopic as 'My Old Man' was excellent. |  |
