Very little went right for me today. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much fight there was in a threadbare Town. Injury, injustice, infamy whatever has sent us down this season, it was pretty crystallised today.

I thought Johnson played really well, then he got sent off. The first was baffling as he looked clean through, the second so obvious it was Axel at Villa again. Before that Clarke had threatened, Delap had been ready to rhumble, and Town were scrapping for inches.

Tonali was a monster at Portman Rd, but today he seemed a bit moany. I did laugh when Taylor slipped, skittled him and he acted like a wuss. Given we had VAR for all sorts, from Morsy cleared of assault, to a penalty so soft they’re going to rate cotton by it from next week. But the most farcical decision was booking Burn and Delap, the soon to leave strike having the temerity to try and mark the goon from the toon.

We don’t like people with out ten fingers as a rule, and when he lumbered in an aggressive header from a corner, Burn proved himself no exception did he? It said a lot that even the barcodes were unhappy with the ref, stirring from their slumber to chastise him too.

If Will Osula wants to score goals every week, then he did a good audition in front of McKenna today. A tad over the top and excitable with the celebrations but I’d have him here next year if he’s bored of the bench.

Godfrey emerged from the death sentence the gossips had given him a few weeks ago. Had we had 11 and not been defending for all we could, he had some space as did a few others do still get at Pope. Ultimately, we never had enough, we were knew we were down and at full time let the players and manager know we weren’t out of love with a single one of them.

It’s been humbling, but knowing it’s never been a fair fight makes the blows somewhat easier to take. I don’t buy conspiracies, but with the conversation about all three teams heading back down again, it’s clear there’s an in built bias at this level. The drip, drip, drip of every small decision going against you is a horrible way to be flushed back down the pipe.

Que sera sera we are going to Coventry then.

And so we go into the land of bonkers again.

The ins and outs of the summer will keep football scribes and speculators busy with words and theories and guesses and frowns and exuberance and allsorts. Eventually all will settle and off we go again. We’ve reached a station where not making the playoffs next season will feel like failure. That’s a measure of how far we’ve come. I hope McKenna stays. We can all guess which players are likely to exit so it might fell like a mini rebuild. But we know now we can conquer that league - a different lens from when we emerged from League 1.

As for the premiership, I hope Millwall go up via the playofffs and get to the promised land. And wreck the place.

I have no idea where we will be shopping this summer. That’s the hardest part. I also don’t think it’s a given we go up, because it’s so far off yet. I hope we do and it’s the most dominant team ever, but who knows?

I saw this pop up this morning and it just makes me laugh. Sums up this season nicely

It’s the shove that makes me laugh so much now and the way they fall away from each other. How that went unpunished is criminal

The Leicester push was the worst decision of the season I hope it gets end of season review coverage across the Premiership end of season reviews.

Gallagher's attempt to justify it while Stephen Warnock and Sue Smith laughed at him were quite amusing too and should be played as well.

Newcastle's goal was so safe that they could play someone who died earlier in the week between the posts. It did mean they felt the need for 2 keepers on the bench but Ipswich were left wishing they could turn back time as Cher helped Newcastle on their way to a clean sheet that was rarely threatened.

Ben Johnson sprinted to 2 early cards and a bath after only 36 minutes when the referee confused him for an Olympic diver instead. There was little doubt about the outcome of the match after that. It started off like a Champions League side against a relegation one and that's how it ended. It was all as predictable as a goal for Isak. Kieron McKenna was his usual calm measured self afterwards as he selected all the right cliches whilst still pointing out the harshness of referees over the season. After a run of managers called Paul, perhaps that was the McKenna Ipswich needed for this season after all.
