This must be the worst premier league season in years 16:00 - May 11 with 1225 views | Dubtractor | There has been pretty much no jeopardy in any games for the last month or so. Especially not for neutral fans. Relegation has been a done deal for months, likewise Liverpool had the title sown up ages ago. Take forest's season out and what has there been to get excited by? And it's likely forest will fall short of the top 5 anyway.

This must be the worst premier league season in years on 16:06 - May 11 with 1193 views | VanDusen | It's SO boring. What was more surprising was speaking to some Brentford fans who told me how they had really hoped to get relegated this season and envied us going back to the Championship! Obvs they were hoping now they could get Europe next season to "get to go to go to Azerbaijan", but would be really keeping fingers crossed that would also mean they'd fade in the league. Given where they are is pretty much the best we could hope for in the modern game, it doesn't exactly say much for what markets itself as 'the best league in the world'...

I really don't get that. They are one of the few teams that have genuinely got something to play for. And they improve year on year, they could keep challenging for Europe and enjoy some really good players. Could we take their place if they don't want it?

This must be the worst premier league season in years on 16:21 - May 11 with 1082 views | Mark | Yep. No title race. No relegation battle. Six teams qualifying for the 'Champions' League', meaning that the top teams can be poor and still qualify. VAR taking away the joy of goals and making fans sit around waiting for decisions. I cancelled my Sky TV/Now subscription and am enjoying giving my eyes a rest from the advertising boards.

I just got a notification from sky telling me Arsenal "not safe in 2nd"...!! Talk about trying to egg it up a bit!

This must be the worst premier league season in years on 16:37 - May 11 with 991 views | Smoresy | Flipping the script, has there ever been so much competition for European places? Obviously the expansion of tournaments and English clubs' performances have helped in that regard, but we've also seen a (perhaps temporary) closing of the gap between the top and middle teams. Considering how few points the bottom three have, it's surprising that the top of the league also sit on relatively modest totals. So not a vintage year for the neutrals but rare excitement for fans of clubs in the middle third of the league, when typically there's just PL merit revenue to play for after Easter, and rare jeopardy for 2nd down in the CL picture, when more often those slots are already settled by now. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

How low down the table qualifies now? Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton and Fulham have all been hit and miss for a few months (albeit Brentford now hitting a bit of form) and there is a 7 point gap from 7th to 8th place. I get the point you're making, and sort of agree if you're a fan of those clubs, but as a neutral the race for 8th place doesn't get the blood pumping! [Post edited 11 May 16:46]

Watching - Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14y/o wonderkid score the second fastest IPL century (35 balls), second only to Chris Gayle, for struggling Rajastan Royals against Gujarat Titans almost had me in tears of joy. Shame the competition has been suspended while India and Pakistan lob weapons at each other.

The point is that they are sick of being ignored and when they are considered in the media it is a pat on the head and how lucky they are to be playing such wonderful brands as Arsenal and Liverpool. If eighth is as good as it gets then stick your premier league. Like them I'd much prefer to play in an exciting league with genuine competition and that's why I can't wait 'til August (and secretly hope we don't make Top 2).

It’s becoming more like the nfl or whatever

Ha yeah I don't disagree really, certainly doesn't sell itself! Just a nice wee change from the usual suspects having all the fun in some respects, because half those usual suspects have been entertainingly bad. Someone told me the other week that as low as 11th may still be awarded Conference Lg but that appears to be an unlikely hypothetical for future seasons, and I haven't paid enough attention to the gaps opening up in the middle. 8th could receive Europa, Conference or nothing, dependent on a headache-inducing list of possibilities still in league and cups. https://www.espn.co.uk/football/story/_/id/44372662/how-premier-league-teams-qua

It's crazy that around half the league can qualify for Europe. It makes it too easy for the big clubs and diminishes what it means to be in Europe. When I was growing up it was the European Cup for the champions, the Cup Winners Cup for cup winners and UEFA Cup for a few of the other top sides. Matches were on TV for everyone to watch without paying subscriptions. I much prefer how it was.
