The ridiculous shytehousery in the penalty box at corners CAN be ended…. 09:19 - May 12 with 2084 viewsArnieM

The quickest way to end the ridiculous free for all in the penalty box at corners, is for the refs to blow his whistle and hand out 3-4 yellow cards…. Commence play, fouls re committed, second bookings and OFF. Yes it’ll make the game a 5 a side for a few games but the game is a farce in its current state anyway. Players being banned (several players in a team) for a game or two will sharpen the mind if they know they will be booked and eventually sent off. This is totally down to the players.

Did anyone realise Brentford's set piece coach is Keith Andrews, once a player here. He was very pleased when they scored off his training ground routine.

On the subject of ‘housery - wasn’t there a directive earlier this season about only the captain speaking to the referee? That certainly hasn’t lasted - the Brentford players had at least three around the official pretty much the whole time. TBH I don’t think it always helped their cause, but it grinds my gears to see it.

I also wonder whether the fact that van den berg went down like the proverbial sack of whatever in an earlier challenge with Delap, holding his head, only to make a miraculous recovery, whether that might have counted against him in some of the later incidents - I would hope so

If you recall they tried something like that a few seasons ago, possibly the season we went down to league one.

It was highly advertised that grappling in the box would lead to free kicks or penalties.

It lasted about two weeks.

We were the only team I can recall having a penalty awarded against them for grappling in the box.

next week it was all forgotten.

I seem to remember Knudsen away at Reading in a televised match. The ref gave him a warning and then pointed to the spot immediately as the corner was taken.

edit - this game I think: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37253237

Also Vincent-Young away at Lincoln in the promotion season.

It might be better in the Championship with no VAR, so if refs have the balls , more free kicks and penalties might be given.

Something really has to be done now , we should have given away 3 penalties ( at least) on Saturday.
Part of the game I really hate .

Or say that both teams need to have two (three?) outfield players in the centre circle when the corner is taken.

That short corner idea sounds like great fun for the spectator, but would perhaps result in cavalry-charge type collisions and injuries.
