Lessons to be learned in all areas, including tactics and recruitment. Massive summer ahead! Fanbase and club to look forward though and a fast start required in August.

No home points in 2025 on 18:08 - May 25 with 927 views | Swansea_Blue | Goals. And game management. And lack of quality/mistakes. We’ve been on top in enough moments in games to have scored far more. Ironic really given it was our strength the previous 2 seasons under Kieran. As good as Delap has been, we’ve missed a seasoned, quality striker. The same with a number 10 and at least one wide player. There are too many kids making their way for the first time in the PL and then it’s all been too disrupted by injury. Obviously midfield has been porous and also put the defence under more pressure than needed. And teams have ruthlessly exploited Leif pushing up (that’s probably our Achilles heal, even if Leif is probably our best performing player stats-wise).

Need to throw in how we keep backing off players when we defend. The defending has been terrible at times. There’s plenty for KM and his coaching staff to address during pre-season.

Lightweight behind Delap and slow un-athletic double pivot. We got worked out quite quickly. Delap got more and more isolated and frustrated. As soon as teams worked out it wasn’t best to have an open game against us we had no answers at all. Even when it was an open game we got punished.

Trying to replicate other sides keeping their shape but just really slow to get out to them and giving players a lot of space, tough watch. Look at Morsy for Chelsea’s second at the bridge and the third today for example. Giving it away in midfield doesn’t help either. Lucky we had an inform Delap first half of year or it would have been a lot worse. I’ve got some many questions on recruitment for PL level, such similar profiles, just hope they all come good for us to get promoted next year. You’d think we’d be ok there. Should be doing all we can to get a system in place for scout abroad for physicality and strength in summer 2026 if we get back. [Post edited 25 May 18:18]

We’re just not good enough. The gap in quality between even our best and every other team’s starting 11 is too large (we’re not the only ones to suffer this). I don’t know how you can change that other than unearth players who are absolute beast that nobody’s heard off. Which is unlikely in this day with every player analysed to feck. That’s why I give us an out - the challenge is almost impossible to overcome and our players are giving it their best. As long as they work hard and sweat tears, we can’t ask for any more.

Of course we are not good enough. However, it’s a pretty easy get out of jail free card as a default answer. Especially considering we spent 140M and most of our fanbase had subscribed to the narrative that we are a lot better than the other promoted sides and that we are super competitive at this level. The only chance we had was going nuclear like Forest. There’s a lot of players that have had a lot of minutes that aren’t close to being PL players, in fact I doubt a couple of them would have got in the Leeds and Burnley sides. It probably wasn’t even an option with our scouting network to do a Forest and I doubt we were prepared to break the rules. I’m not surprised we went down at all and still fully back McKenna but I think we have got quite a lot wrong as well, especially from a recruitment and tactical standpoint. There’s posters like yourself that wouldn’t question one decision we’ve made and have the same answer for everything. Look at the first goal today, you couldn’t even put blame on us for that in the other thread. A bit tiresome. All that said I think we will be fine next year. [Post edited 25 May 18:34]
