 No Smoking Ban 29th May 2001 14:18The ban on smoking in the upper tier of the South Stand is to be lifted. Up to now smoking has not been allowed in the new tier, but the club is allowing smokers the chance to puff away to their hearts' content during the new season.  1
The pre-smoking ban world seems a long way away.
Obviously today, there's just an inordinate number of people who need a sh1t at half-time.....

Years ago i left my Wrangler cord jacket in the Macebearer pub in Bury after a Town night game. Didn't realise for nearly a week so went to retrieve it. It absolutely stunk of fags, so bad in fact i had to bin it. Shame, i liked that jacket. |  | | |

I honestly used to think that a couple pieces Wrigley's Spearmint would cure all - mother, sadly, saw through my disguise.
Used to sit on the smoking carriage on the train coming back from Uni up north - honestly, more passive smoking in an hour's travel from Donny to Peterborough than in perhaps any pub in the whole of England. The tables were stained amber-yellow, Vappers - pure ming!

I sat down on the smoking carriage once when I was commuting. Took me about five seconds to realise it was a mistake. Think that was actually grimmer than a rail replacement bus via Newbury park.
I think I could accept that a big night out meant being covered in smoke but I absolutely detested the same thing when going for a beer or two after work. | |

It was probably the mid 90,s when i last smoked inside there. I'm sure some people may have groaned, just pretend you don't see or hear them and carry on. Different times man..Those around me woulda been with me.
The last time I smoked inside Portman Road was out on practice pitch at half time or before kick off probably about 20-25 years ago. Some steward got the right hump and asked me to put it out..

I first started going along to PR as a kid in about 1993 / 1994. Bloke a couple of seats along from me used to smoke like a chimney during the game and I remember finding it gross when it wafted in my direction, but that was pretty normal then and just the way it was. I've never had a problem with it at half time etc or in a designated area, that's no different to being out in the street really. I wouldn't have much of an issue with it being allowed in an open concourse like at the Valley or something, even as a non smoker.
I find it hard to imagine people ever smoked inside an office, that blows my mind. Or on a plane. Smoking and non smoking sections in restaurants, how did that even work? |  | | |
